Can’t wait to go back! This isn’t the first time I’ve had A Taste of Laos but it was the first time I Dined in. We are from a part of the country that is filled with different ethnicities of Asian so we love and know real authentic Asian food and know the difference between the cultures. I will start with saying I think you are served more food in dining purely based on how much they can only fit in the to go containers. The dining in portions are VERY GENEROUS. We ordered chicken fried rice, egg rolls, drunken noodles and Pad basil. All were so amazing and tasted delicious! Very flavorful and loved how they shaved the chicken instead of other cutting methods. In the dining room they played lounge music covers of popular songs. It made me feel like I was somewhere else besides this lil small town and enjoyed it so much I tried to look for the playlist or channel but couldn’t find it unfortunately. The staff was also very friendly and pleasant. The temperature inside was also cool on a muggy and humid day.

Update: have been back twice since than and the 3rd time I ordered a chicken basil Dish w/sticky rice instead of regular rice. They brought my food and I noticed it didn’t have the distinct Basil taste. I asked the waiter if they forgot to cook it with Basil and he went and talked to kitchen and said they were out of it. The name of the dish had Basil in it and they didn’t think it was important to let their customers know?! I let the waiter know I no longer wanted it bc it didn’t taste the same. He looked very confused as if returning incorrect food was a foreign concept. He started to mumble stuff but ended up just taking it back and I ordered a curry dish which was also missing Basil but it was not a big deal as I wanted it for the curry taste. 2nd problem- he brought it back with regular rice instead of letting me keep the sticky rice and was highly annoyed I asked for the sticky rice back. Haven’t been back since. They have good service until they don’t and it seems they don’t know how to handle those situations well nor do they communicate well in regards to what they do and don’t have in stock. My son also doesn’t like going here anymore saying they are stingy with the sticky rice.

Delicious food BUT they need better ventilation in the building. It gets all smoky from the cooking. It was bothering my eyes so much I wanted to open a door!!!

A Taste of Laos recently moved to a new location, and it’s a fantastic upgrade! The food remains amazing, and they now offer fountain drinks with refills, which is a great addition. Portions are generous, and the staff is always friendly and happy to answer questions about their authentic Laotian cuisine—a true gem in the Waco area. I had the Spicy Noodles with Chicken, and they were delicious! Be warned, even the ‘medium’ spice level packs a punch, so if you’re unsure, go with ‘mild.’ My partner had the Fried Pork Belly plate with fried rice and absolutely loved it. Everything is made to order, and they’re great at accommodating dietary restrictions. Highly recommend giving it a try!

Got the pan friend noodles with chicken and the beef pho. Beef pho was fine, slightly worse than average beef pho. The pan fried noodles were poor

Visited Hewitt to have dinner at “A taste of Laos”. No waiting time – the restaurant at 5PM was completely empty. Ordered small pho with a combination of meats.
The Pho arrived promptly, but was a big disappointment. Despite ordering extra meat I found two very little slices of tough beef, 3 small shrimps (extra $5!!) and a few miniscule pieces of shredded chicken ($3!!) swimming in a water, accompanied by rice noodle. The “broth” was completely tasteless like the soup wasn’t cooked and seasoned yet, and definitely not ready to serve.
Ended to pay for the disaster over $23. A total rip off!
Won’t be dining there again and not recommending.

Chicken Fried Rice
EDITED AT THE END
The rice was dry. The chicken was even drier.
I asked for a 2 in spiciness but didn’t get any spice at all. And the taste was meh.
Normally I give places a second chance but there are too many other Asian places who have far better food.
I’m not one who is hard to please but today’s experience was so far below what I expected from a place with 4.6 stars that I can’t not say anything.
Hopefully I am the uh-oh customer and this isn’t normal.

Based on the owner’s kind response, I will certainly be giving this place another shot.
I already want to give them a 5 star review in the area of “Service” simply based on his response. So, I look forward to the opportunity to be able to give them a much higher rating.

We’re always on the hunt for good local Asian cuisine, and this may just be our new go-to! Taste of Laos is definitely worth the trip!

We tried the chicken egg rolls, orange chicken with fried rice with yum yum sauce, and chicken Lao Mein!

Enjoyed the food. The portions are big. The food was authentic. The service was great and the cashier was informative. We ordered several items on the menu to taste a little bit of everything. The Laos tea was tastier than expected and paired well with all of the dishes. The Pho was authentic and the noodles were cooked perfectly.

I dare say, this place has the BEST Chinese crispy roast pork in TX, not just in Waco. It’s not too salty but so crunchy and juicy. I just wish that the pork plate comes with some vegetables like cucumbers or salads, because pork is quite heavy with all the fat. But, it’s still so good.
Pho was great too. This place is one of the few Asian gems in Waco, and we must treasure it.
And the server was very kind too 🙂

I’m critical when it comes to a good bowl of pho. I’m Viet and grew up eating Pho every weekend. If I legitimately did not want to wait 8 hours to make my own pot I would actually come here for Pho. There are Viet restaurants in Waco area that can’t even make a bowl as good as this. The prices are a bit steep for a bowl but they make up for it with the bits of beef they put in it. I would have to say this is the best Pho in Waco but that’s not saying much since the bar is low.

Eggrolls have crunch and lots of rice noodles? not to much meat inside almost think it was vegetarian but I’m not hating on it as flavors were there and wouldn’t hesitate to order it again.

Crispy Pork Belly with sticky rice. Yo this is fire. Really legit and most likely be a repeat for the future visits. It’s probably because of this dish I will be coming back.

I lost all hope for Asian food since I moved here to Waco but this place has really open that hope back up for me and it’s good for the area. It’s in the Chevron Gas station and you can get drink next door to drink with your meal but the drinks aren’t cold.

It’s a solid 5 Waco Stars

2 days later update: I really wanted to get some Laos Sausage but was unable to because they ran out. So I subbed for the BBQ ribs which came with an egg. Then Papaya Salad that had some fried crunchy chicharrons and a side order of fried rice. Everything I had was A-Mazing!! Who ever is cooking this food knows what they are doing. There is a passion for great tasting food from the Kitchen here.
