I was hoping it was just Tortas Jalisco rebranded but it’s not . I ordered the vegetarian nachos. According to the menu they have Fresh corn tortilla chips topped with beans, cheese, onions, jalapeños, diced tomatoes, sour cream, and guacamole. They had no beans on them no cheese no jalapenos . It was nothing like the menu described. It was pretty awful. I definitely won’t be going there again. It was just some standard tortilla chips with some huge chunks of rough chopped romaine lettuce on top and then they just threw on some of the fajita Peppers that they use for the fajitas and put some sour cream and guacamole on top. That was all that was on it. Like I said no beans, no jalapenos, no tomatoes, no cheese.

ABSOLUTELY THE BEST Mexican food in Lawrence!! I was born & raised in Southern California and have missed the Mexican food I grew up having. I’m SO thankful for this restaurant. The food and staff are excellent!!

Tortas Jalisco has reopened! The restaurant, a fixture in west Lawrence for a number of years, closed several years ago. Now it has opened in a smaller space near Iowa and Ninth Street, across from the park. They now open at four pm with no lunch service. The locale is compact, but comfortable, with an outdoor area. Several of the staff have returned too. The menu while different has a familiar feel. They still have our favorites: tamales, fish tacos, nopalitos, tortas (sandwiches), nachos, and blue corn enchiladas. Great portions with superb flavor. Other favorites too! The chips are still great with superb salsa. And you can’t beat the homestyle cooking and superb staff. There is a pickup window and ample parking. It is good to see that they are back! Worth the visit.

Service was quick, food was delicious. I got the steak fajitas, the meat was so tender and flavorful. Wonderful place, definitely will be going back!

The food was excellent. I hadn’t been since they moved from the 6th st location a few years ago. Did NOT disappoint! I had fish tacos that were huge.

This place has a long history on the west side of Lawrence. This is the third location where I have tried it, and it has some high points. In the old days, their torta ahogada was superb, and they apparently still make them some weekends as a special.
We went there specifically for fish tacos. We had recently tried the fish tacos at Fuzzy’s. We will eventually try all of them available around the city… The differences? This place heats the tortillas if perhaps not enough, but more than nothing. That is a distinct advantage. The salsa at this place is quite a bit better… Indeed, even very good. The fish per se is probably a bit better at fuzzies, but the tacos overall are better here, if buy a hair.
Tortas Jalisco is definitely a hole in the wall, but has its high points. Certainly, being family run, and family owned is attractive, and this family has been running interesting restaurants in the city for some time now.

I’ve tried hard numerous times to try and like this place as an empire regular but this place is comically bad… literal photo of the food untouched when I got home after ordering it to go… it’s also short a taco. Place is garbage

Our first time here! The food is delicious and a good price. I absolutely love a little local restaurant and this is exactly what I was looking for. The owner is so friendly, too! The salsa is flavorful and spicy! Queso was also tasty, and the chips were fresh. Will be back often.

Simply outstanding. I ordered a ton of food and every single thing was delicious. The tamales are spicy, FYI! The wings were better than they had any reason to be. The salsa is also spicy and delicious. The outdoor eating area is nice and clean. I highly recommend this place and will be going back far too often.
