A beautiful hidden gem tucked away in West Reading!
We came here to celebrate our 3rd anniversary, and everything from start to finish was simply wonderful. The moment we walked in, we were greeted by a cozy, library-inspired setting, books, warmth, and charm everywhere!

Waiting for us at our table was a sweet little card that said “Happy Anniversary”, which was such a thoughtful touch. Our waitress was incredibly attentive, and the service couldn’t have been better.

Now… the food. Oh. My. God. Absolutely divine! The kind of meal that makes you go quiet just so you can savor every bite. The drinks were just as amazing, and they even surprised us with complimentary champagne to toast our anniversary (so delicious!).

The only small downside is that the tables are a bit close together, but honestly, that’s a minor detail compared to how phenomenal everything else was.

Yhe most important things I find when going to a fine dining establishment is, was the meal proper value, and was the service up to snuff. Ambience is an enhancement factor but it cant fix issues with the food or the service.

On the positive side the atmosphere and service were fairly good, wait times left a bit to be desired but I understand sometimes things just dont line up.

The food starting from the beginning was less than I would care to expect, a 21 dollar bread basket with assorted slices of happenstance bread, a Patè that had a metallic quality that was overpowering, and a butter candle that was more show than function.
From price point to quality this was just bad, I should not look at panera bread as a superior option when im dining out for a special occasion, and unfortunately that was where we started the night. The choice may not have been the best for starting the evening on my part but it was a hard lesson learned.

On the main course, the highlight was the potatoes, they were well prepared, cheesy and very enjoyable. The Hanger steak, initially on the first few bites the char on the steak seemed to be fine, the sauce on it balanacing it but as you progress through eating it was just overpowering, unfortunately i was unable to finish it without the acrid taste of char in my mouth with no meat flavor to be seen.
The broccolini was well prepared.

Unfortunately between the quality of the food, and the questionable price point for the bread basket compared with the inclusions I would consider this to be more for show than for quality tasty meals.

I did enjoy my cocktail, which I believe was called Umami Mami, but when I wanted a non alcoholic option for a second drink, there were no Iced tea or lemonade as options.

Phenomenal all around! The space itself was amazing, clearly every single detail was intentional and cultivated with love. The decor, lighting, colors all flowed so well together to create such a unique atmosphere. We had Jen as our server and she was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and absolutely on top of things. She gave us fantastic recommendations and answered all of our questions with ease. Our table had the breadbasket, 2 ribeyes, and the lobster toast. Words can’t do the food justice, just know that everything was beyond delicious. All of our cocktails were so interesting and yummy, highly recommend the port. Dessert was great and I feel like our bill was very appropriately priced for our experience. Will 100% be back in the future and telling everyone about this establishment. 10/10 stars, 10/10 would recommend!

Wow, wow, wow. Amazing from beginning to end. Staff is fantastic, food is unreal. Worth every penny. The area needed a place like this. Quality food, great atmosphere and high quality worth paying for. My wife and I will definitely be back!

Update 10/26/24: Unfortunately the Google starts only go to 5, otherwise I’d add 5 more to this review. I had a chance to revisit this evening and had another amazing dinner. My wife had the wild boar and I had the hen. Both were perfect. The drinks were amazing, as always. The waiter was one of the best I’ve had in a long time. I’ve never gone on a review and updated my experience for a second visit but this place is worth my time. I look forward to another great meal in the very near future.

If you look closely, you will see the small sign beckoning you behind the Barley Mow and up the stair to The Light In The Attic. As you enter the small room it feels like you stepped into a hidden library. We were lucky enough to be seated in the loft with a view of the downstairs.
Or server was very friendly and offered many great suggestions. Try the carrots! IYKYK
Cocktails were unique and delicious. Food was just as exciting on the pallet. Portions were perfectly sized. All in all, an excellent dining option. Prices are high, but for a special occasion, worth it.

Delicious! This was a wonderful date night location. The lightbulb sign at the front of the breezeway between the buildings, made it feel like you were entering a true speakeasy. At the top of the steps to the 2nd floor, you open the door into what appears to be a library with an old phone booth. But then, the hostess leads you behind the curtains into the dining room/ bar. Finally felt like we had received our money’s worth. Filled us up the rest of the evening. The bombilini appetizer was layered with flavor. The lobster toast and skirt steak were excellent.

Food, desserts and cocktails are delicious. Beer selection is short and is understandable due to the kind of restaurant but they are good. Now the prices? Too high! Yes, everything is really good but not for those tags. Everything could be 15 to 30% less

Jen was our waitress, absolutely wonderful!! She made fantastic suggestions that were truly spot on! The atmosphere was very chic, I must admit i loved the bathroom star light and wallpaper. Drinks were delicious, the meals (duck and mac and cheese) were beyond incredible, I imagine elsewhere will be ruined since it was so wonderful here! Dessert was nothing short of spectacular, Jen’s suggestion of sticky toffee pudding was so good (and my first time having it), I had to let everyone try a bite bc it was that good! 5 stars whole heartedly, we will be back! Thank you for a wonderful dining experience. ❤️

Out of towners first time at ALITA. Cayla and Melissa are fantastic bartenders. They’re knowledgeable and friendly. We got the Escargot as an appetizer— it came out very hot which was a plus, it was very good but downside is we only got 4 pieces of snails. I personally think there should be at least 6-8 for $24. Although they were very tender and tasty. For dinner, we got the Lobster Toast and Charred Octopus. Both tender, and the balance of flavor was excellent. Generous amount of lobster. The Reading area doesn’t have enough of these places that have quality food. A place that appreciate quality over quality for foodies and mixology enthusiasts. The decor and ambiance is cozy and beautiful. Make a reservation on or before 8:30pm to catch the kitchen when it’s open. They do still serve drinks after the kitchen closes and I believe you can just walk in for that! Worth it. Will be back for more creative cocktails.

Excellent night! We loved the drinks and Graham our server was top notch. Recommend the tuna and escargot appetizers as well as the duck, lamb, scallops, and steak. Did not have the Lobster toast but saw it served at another table and it looked decadent. The Lavender Lemon Drop was perfection. Beautiful atmosphere. Such a memorable and pleasant evening!❤️
