Old-school, family-owned joint serving thin-crust pizzas made from family recipes & beer.

Very busy, which is a good thing, and the staff was AMAZING! Didn’t have any dark beer but the Killian’s wasn’t too bad! And I ALMOST forgot to take a picture before I started to eat. The pizza was amazing!

This restaurant serves some of the best pizza in the entire Midwest. I loved it when I was a student there at Iowa and now over 30 years later I had a chance last month to pay a visit. Still amazing! Definite go to if you are in Iowa City.

Everyone talks about their pizza so much so now that our daughter is a student at Iowa we had to give it a go. We were able to find a handicap spot in the lot next door. The restaurant was pretty full for the time of night and a Sunday. They do not a true waiting space so when we left there was a bit of a traffic jam and patrons waiting for spots next to booths trying to eat their pizza. I know it is a historic Iowa City restaurant but they need a larger space.
It took some figuring out for seating (all they have are booths) but we found a spot that didn’t hinder traffic since we had to put our other daughter, who is in a wheelchair, at the end of the booth. We ordered too much pizza (oh well, leftovers for another time!)
We will be back, but maybe to go for ease for our family.

WELCOMING FRONT & ENTERTAINING ATMOSPHERE
Watching the pizzas be made by the team from the outside window is a really cool characteristic of this place. The young gal that took my order was very kind & sweet. The restaurant certainly has a charming but untouched interior (not in a bad way) from the 90’s – a la what the inside of a Pizza Hut used to be like. The pie was decent when it was piping hot, but nothing to write home about. I was disappointed because I didn’t walk into there thinking I was about to eat an earth-shattering amazing piece of pizza. I’d certainly go back and then sit outside on a Fall day.

Good pizza. Let’s start there. The flavor is really good. I will admit though there are several things that disappoint me. First of all the sauce on the pizza was so hot it burnt the roof of my mouth on the first bite. So be careful. The parking situation is a bit confusing. The prices aren’t great. And quite frankly i thought the menu selection is very limited

Such a nostalgic atmosphere and vibe. Service was good, very busy but we were seated and served right away. The pizza looks great but it just doesn’t deliver the taste I was hoping for. Sauce is mild to bland, sausage lacks in a fennel and spice and is very mild, the crust while cooked on a stone, was dry and flavorless. Had high expectations for this one, but It just didn’t work out.

This is hands down the best pizza in Iowa City and I dare say most anywhere. The long standing outstanding customer service is exceptional with fine ingredients that work so well together.
If you haven’t tried it, you must!

I love places like this, been around since 1957. Great vibe with a simple menu done really well. I created my own 10 inch pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms and green peppers, cooked a little extra dark. The crust is thin and crispy, just the way I like it. The flavors were awesome. They had Easy Eddie from Big Grove on tap as well. No Parmesan cheese, which I thought was a little strange but overall an amazing place.

As a student I had a thing for the Canadian Bacon pizza. I ordered one at least once a week. Life goes on and life takes you elsewhere. The years pass and this pizza continued to find a spot in my mind. Now I find myself in town and ordering my regular. The crust was as i remembered, chewy and crispy, but the sauce tasted of unseasoned generic tomato sauce and the Canadian Bacon topping so lightly applied as to have no meaningful topping on some slices. They say you can’t go home…

Phenomenal pizza! Get the thin crust (of course), and do NOT miss out on the sauerkraut. They’re making them right in front of you and the don’t skimp on the toppings or the cheese. The 14 inch pizza was enough for the three of us.
We drew a surly waitress (maybe she had a bad day), still didn’t spoil our experience. Place was clean, as was the restroom.
Best pizza in the midwest? Wouldn’t know because I haven’t tried any others, bu this sure would be a tough act to beat..!
