They have great coolers to enjoy alongside your food, one with cucumber and chia, a pineapple one, a watermelon one, and a horchata as well.
Food is prepared quickly and with attention to detail, and their consume broth to go along with your Birria tacos is… DELICIOUS!
We happened in on a Tuesday so we had one of their 3 cheese Taco Tuesday specials which came out beautifully and was super tasty.
This is a great place to enjoy a bite while enjoying a nice show in the park, a walk along the river, or a picnic in the grass.
If you are ever in the area and want a quick south of the border treat, I highly recommend a stop in at La Vaquita! Super Yummy!
Thank you for taking the time to read my honest review and I hope you have a wonderful meal!
Cheers!
I would recommend eating this at a table with a napkin dispenser, and not inside of your car – like I did. Avoid making a huge mess bc the broth is spilling everywhere since the lid is melting from the consome being extremely hot.
Queso birria should have that crunchy pan-fried hard shell that makes it easy to pick up and dip with your consome, but I didn’t get that experience here. La VaQuita is good, perfect for Kalama Marina, but I’ll pass next time I am in town.
I moved back to Kalama over a year ago and just discovered this place last month, now I’m kicking myself! How did I not know about this place sooner?
Well, I do now. And now this will probably be my favorite summer spot for a lunch break with a view.
The location?
At the beautiful Kalama marina ✅
The convenience?
Adequate parking, short walk, next to a building with cute artisan stores ✅
The food?
So good. Flavor is good. The juiciness of the meat, excellent. The portion sizes are very good considering it’s absolutely restaurant quality.
The menu is less diverse than many food carts, which is generally a drawback. However I believe that this means their food is better just a little, because they spend so much practice on one signature ingredient and keep the dishes fairly simple. Also a huge plus for any preferential eaters, less random extras to remove or change.
The staff is very friendly and respectful. I don’t normally like being called ma’am, but the kind girl who takes the orders is very polite.
The beef –
was plain pulled roast, natural color and quality A-
The tortilla were unique in color and texture. A+
The long onions on the side were potentially fermented or pickled as far as I could tell. A+
The
Came with many lime and reddish.
Very full tacos!
HOT sauce- 3 pictured. 2 were the same flavor with slightly different heat. Very bbq flavor, as the peppers were grilled a long time. “One salsa as far as I’m concerned, I finished both” The 3rd had a peanut vibe that was interesting. “I finished half as it wasn’t my favorite, yet appreciated the experience”
Hot sauce/ salsa as pictured I’ll say C+ because I would have appreciated 1 or 2 more additional flavor options.
This was an unexpected surprise.
A father & Son Team serving up some of the BEST Birrria Taco’s stuffed with well seasoned beef and all the trimmings you would expect.
I gotta give a shout out to the hot sauce
