Reviews
Brisket: 8/10 (very good, solid brisket, tender, fat was cooked perfectly)
Coleslaw: 7/10 (standard/good)
Macaroni salad: 5/10 (too sweet, became overpowering over time)
Toast: 7/10 (good bread, but I prefer cornbread with BBQ)
Sweet tea: 9/10 (perfect. Not too sweet but just sweet enough)
Overall: 7/10. Would suggest if you’re ever in the area. Better than most BBQ you get when picking a random spot. Good prices for what you get. Short wait time for seating and for food.
First, I was hoping for more of a restaurant since we were trying it for a date night. I didn’t realize they were not that style. However, that’s not really bad on their part, just not what I was expecting for my first time.
The restaurant was self-serve and searing was open. It was clean and well maintained. Everyone was friendly.
The food overall was good. I did not care for the green beans. They had a funky taste to them.
Last thing was I was disappointed that the banana pudding was really weak on the banana. I felt there should have been more banana in it, chunks or puree to make the flavor stronger.
THE RIBS are where the $$$ is! MY WORD were they so good. I also enjoyed the sweeter baked beans! Yummy. I did add BBQ sauce to make it a bit less sweet which was perfect. Their brisket was sliced super thin. It was more like thick sliced brisket BACON. But the flavor was very good. We also tried their cheesy jalapeño sausage. It wasn’t as spicy as we thought it would be but very delicious.
Coleslaw was creamy and good. Had a nice balance of creamy and tangy. Also the cornbread casserole “spoon bread” was really good. It’s a very southern thing and I was delighted to see it on the menu!!! We also tried the potato casserole which was very good. Think creamy cheesy potatoes… yum. Their fries seemed fresh cut and were very good as well. And the garlic bread was a nice touch to the trays.
Over all I’d say 8/10, and I can’t wait to come back and try the chicken! I wished the 1/2 chicken was on the menu more frequently. I had it at a catered event and it was amazing. If for nothing else, I will definitely be back for ribs.
The staff was very nice but the cleanliness of the place can be better.
The setup when you walk in is different. Outside, the place comes across as a sit down restaurant, but it’s actually more like “fast bbq”. You order at a cash register with a giant menu behind it.
We got the Big Shig Platter for our hungry family of 4 and it’s just perfect. The brisket is great, the pulled pork is juicy, cheddar jalapeño sausage is to die for, and of course the gorgeous ribs.
They do deliver this food to your table that you have chosen once it’s ready.
Note: you SHOULD be getting plates and utensils.
Our first time, they didn’t bring any of that out to us. We asked for plates and utensils and the cranky teen that was working dumped like 8 forks on our table and left. I’m suspicious that this may be because we don’t tip restaurants that aren’t actually our servers. Bringing out our food is standard since I can’t go back to your kitchen and get it myself. But… maybe I’m paranoid.
We didn’t tip the second time either and a different happy teen bringing the food out actually brought all that without us having to ask. So I’m going to say that our first time experience here was a fluke with a cranky teen that didn’t want to be there on a Sunday.
I do recommend for a good meat meal!
