The vibe in this space is wonderful. It was extremely easy to settle in, get comfortable, and enjoy ourselves.
The staff was friendly and welcoming from the second they open the doors for us. Our servers knew the menu backwards and forwards and had helpful suggestions as far as beverage pairings, and answered our questions about each menu item in detail.
The food itself is amazing. Everything on the menu is considered, intentional, and seasonal.
We enjoyed everything but a big plus to the Pommes Paillasson, Venison Striploin, Wild Boar Country Pâté, and the Wild Striped Bass.
Highly recommend this place. I will be a repeat visitor for sure.
Rue Saint Marc is, without question, one of Jacksonville’s best restaurants. It’s a gastronomic feat for Chef Scott Alters, who puts every ounce of his heart and soul on the plate as he guides you through a magnificent journey for the eyes, olfactory, and tastebuds – the kind you’ll talk about for years to come.
Rue is warm, inviting, and unassuming. The staff is friendly and passionate, bringing an unequivocal breadth of knowledge to the food and wine that will make your head spin. The bar is well-stocked, but I would recommend one of their many speciality cocktails (they have an impressive menu). I had a spicy margarita to kick things off, and it did not disappoint.
We were lucky enough to be celebrating a friend’s birthday, so we opted for the divinely celebrated five-course tasting with a wine pairing. It was beyond words, and my toes have yet to uncurl. The fried potato smothered in caviar was sublime, the foie gras succulent, and the two-part entree feature the flakiest fish and most tender veal I’ve ever tasted.
Chef Scott also whipped up a lobster pasta that was heavenly, featuring cold-water shellfish that’s flown in fresh and prepared by pouring hot water over the crustaceans. The result is tender, perfectly balanced meat that melts in your mouth.
Dessert was otherworldly, with a twist on some standards. They have some great options if you decide to order off the menu, but if it’s a special occasion – and you’re feeling adventurous – go for this amazing five-course dining experience. You can thank me later.
Don’t miss this treasure in Jax. You will “rue” the day you did.
The kitchen operates at a level that rivals top restaurants in major culinary cities. Service is professional and knowledgeable. This is destination dining that puts Jacksonville on the culinary map.
If you’re looking for an exceptional fine dining experience in Northeast Florida, Rue Saint Marc is simply unmatched. Highly recommended for special occasions or anyone who appreciates truly outstanding cuisine.
The Bibb salad comes with ham, but since I don’t eat ham, they were able to remove it and replace it with a few mushrooms. I should’ve looked at the description so I can tell you what cheese was on there, but it was definitely in the blue cheese family. A very potent, soft cheese. I loved it.
The chef provided a complimentary fried rice cube with salmon roe on top. This didn’t have a ton of flavor to it, so it’s not something I’d order (it is an option on the menu).
One thing I didn’t love about the set up is the menu. They leave it upside down, as though it’s a placemat, with your napkin and utensils over it. I grabbed the napkin and utensils off the top, in front of my waitress. She walked away. I sat there for several minutes just looking at my phone because I had no idea the placemat was actually the menu if I flipped it over. I waved over the waitress after a bit and she said she thought I was going to get around to looking at the menu. I wish she would’ve said something when I first sat down or maybe they don’t make the menu look like a placemat in the future?
The service was impeccable—attentive without being intrusive—making us feel like VIPs throughout our meal. The passion the team shares for their craft truly shines through in every detail, from the beautifully curated decor to the meticulously prepared dishes.
Now, let’s talk about the food! Each course of the five-course Valentine’s menu was a masterpiece, but the appetizer stole the show. The fresh crab, paired with luxurious Russian Coldwater caviar, was a heavenly combination that melted in our mouths. It was evident that the chef pours heart and soul into every bite, creating an experience that is nothing short of extraordinary.
Even the water was elevated, treated with UV light purification—this attention to detail is what sets Rue Saint Marc apart.
Overall, the vibe of the restaurant is eclectic yet modern, making it a perfect backdrop for a special occasion. We left feeling like we had experienced something truly magical, and we can’t wait to return! Jacksonville is incredibly lucky to have a dining destination like Rue Saint Marc. Highly recommend!
