Iconic Motorcycle Landmark with Incredible Atmosphere and Community
The Rock Store is far more than a restaurant or roadside stop — it’s a legendary gathering place for motorcycle and automotive enthusiasts and a true Southern California icon. Located along the famous Mulholland Highway in the Santa Monica Mountains, it offers a unique escape from the city while still being easily accessible for a scenic ride or drive.
Established in 1961, The Rock Store has evolved from a small town grocery into one of the most recognized motorcycle hangouts in the world, drawing riders, car enthusiasts, and even celebrities who come together to share their passion for vehicles and canyon roads. The historic volcanic rock building itself adds to the charm and authenticity of the experience.
Visitors can enjoy home-style comfort food, hearty breakfasts, sandwiches, barbecue, and cold drinks in a relaxed, friendly, country-style atmosphere. The location is especially popular on weekends, when riders gather to socialize, check out unique bikes, and enjoy the scenic mountain surroundings.
What truly sets The Rock Store apart is the strong sense of community. It has long been considered a “motorhead mecca,” where enthusiasts of all backgrounds come together to connect, share stories, and celebrate motorcycle culture.
If you’re looking for a place with history, personality, and an authentic enthusiast culture, The Rock Store is a must-visit destination.
For my meal, I ordered the special of the day which was the Eggs Benedict and thought it was pretty good. Everything tasted kind of packaged versus made from scratch, but the eggs were perfectly runny and overall it had some nice flavors so I can’t complain. We also got the Biker Breakfast and the eggs and bacon were very good. However, the pancakes were a bit dry and kind of cakey instead of fluffy. But still we had a nice meal and the drive out there alone is worth the visit. I would recommend to anyone in the area or to anyone searching for a place that requires a beautiful drive to get to it.
Don’t forget to stop by the T-shirt shop and say hi to DORIE—she’s been part of The Rock Store family for as long as I can remember. She’s a super cool biker chick and the heart of the place. Love you, Dorie! If you’re craving an authentic SoCal motorcycle culture experience, this is it.
