Clara’s Cucina is a wonderful Italian restaurant tucked away in the beautiful White House Inn. Perfect for an elevated date night, birthday celebration or anniversary. The staff is wonderful and all of the bartenders are great. They make the best cocktails! Great spot for a nice dinner in VT!

We had a large party for dinner but made a reservation ahead of time so they knew we were coming. The inside was cozy and very cute, so we were excited! However, our waiter didn’t have the best service – we tried to order an appetizer and he told us the kitchen was backed up so we shouldn’t order an appetizer. We ordered a bottle of wine and he brought the wrong bottle out. It took a while to get our drinks and felt like we weren’t checked on a ton. We ordered our food and it took nearly 2 hours to come out. Someone in our party can’t eat gluten and we told the waiter this, but then his plate came out with breadcrumbs all over everything. The waiter did fix that dish and didn’t charge us for it, but it took a long time to get his attention/he never once checked on us. It seemed like the waiter’s first day. Overall, we were dissatisfied by the lack of service – even if the kitchens are backed up, just coming over to check on us every now and then would’ve been better. We talked to the manager about our situation and he was extremely condescending. He said he would adjust our bill and only took off the things the waiter messed up. The food was okay but probably not worth the price. This place is fine, but wouldn’t be my first choice again.

The only reason this place is getting one star, is because it is absolutely beautiful. We had a reservation for four of us at 6pm on Saturday night for dinner. We were sat immediately by a friendly hostess. The waiter started out okay, took our drink orders and brought two of us a very expensive ($20) bowl of broth. It was supposed to be Minestrone soup, but had very little substance and was almost completely broth. We thought that was their thing and didn’t make anything of it. There were several tables with more guests that sat after us, ate before us, and left before we had seen our dinners come out of the kitchen. It’s now 7:45pm and we are just getting served dinner. Two of us had chicken parmesan, which was very clearly left under a heat lamp for more than an hour. Dried up, and a step above cardboard, at it’s best. The one meal was a cold salad, can’t mess that up, and the other was pasta, which appeared to be remade.
Right before the food came, I got up to speak with a manager, who could not be found. I asked the hostess to have him come to my table, I wasn’t happy with the service. This was before I saw the condition of the meal, he never showed up. When the waiter asked us how dinner was, we had said, not good, he ran off and we never saw him again.
When we ate what we could, leaving most of our meals (the two chicken dishes), we had to flag down someone to bring the check. The gentleman who brought it, claimed to have been a “floor manager”, the GM was too busy to come out and speak with us, or listen to us. This “floor manager” made every excuse, “we’re down one person”, if that were the case, why did several tables, or large enough parties come and go, before we ate? Then he was going to take 25% off of the bill, until I informed him that we were never going to return when we visited. He took “the employee discount” of 50% off. Honestly, this was such a disastrous evening, with pathetic lies and excuses, they should have taken care of the entire bill. Their prices are insanely high, the service was non existent, and the lies about forgetting our meal under the heat lamps all night were unacceptable. The recovery of this could have been handled much better if the GM actually knew what they were doing. They should have owned the mistake, made our food again with priority timing, and just simply bought us a round of drinks. As mentioned, we’ll never go back.

Clara’s Cucina is a lovely restaurant in the elegant White House Inn. This is a restaurant you can definitely take your parents or a group of friends to for a charming environment.
The dining room is pretty but I would also recommend sitting in the bar area next to the windows (2-tops only) or on the porch under the umbrellas/by the heat lamps where you can get a great view of the Vermont landscape. The hotel enjoys a nice vantage point from a hill.
We enjoyed our Sunday brunch of Challah French toast and Nutella crepe while peering out at the foliage. The service was excellent.

We’re staying at the White House Inn and didn’t realize there was a restaurant inside. We didn’t have high expectations but were pleasantly surprised.
Atmosphere:
Restaurant was very nice! The colors and decor were very well done. It looked like a 5-star restaurant.
Staff:
The host was extremely friendly and accommodating. The waitress was very nice and attentive.
Caesar salad:
Great! Tasted fresh, good amount of flavor, not too little, not too much. The dressing wasn’t too heavy.
Chicken Parmesan:
The pasta was good. The chicken was very thin and crispy. One of the best Chicken Parmesan’s I’ve had.
Scallop & Lobster Fra Diavlo:
Came with 3 large perfectly seared scallops and a good amount of lobster. The spicy marinara had a nice hint of spice.
Overall, this hidden gem gets 5-stars across the board. Serving sizes were generous.

My fiance and I had an absolutely wonderful experience here for Valentine’s dinner. The atmosphere was beautifully set. The service was impeccable. And the food was amazing. It was extremely well presented, hot, fresh, and the most important part delicious. If I had to nitpick one thing, it was the few minutes I had to wait for another drink. However, my patience resulted in a perfectly spaced second drink to finish the meal.

Much of the food was good, but the pastas were very disappointing. Completely flavorless, surely at least in part because there was a little or no salt in the water that they boiled the pasta in. I typically give constructive criticism to the server and two of us did so on this subject. While he accepted the criticism gracefully and said it would be transmitted to the chef, a restaurant charging as much as this one does, and wanting to show its seriousness, would have either taken those dishes off the bill or offered some sort of compensatory gesture, like a dessert or a drink or something. With just one drink per person, and no dessert, we spent over $90 per person and I don’t mind spending that kind of money on a meal that wows me. Not so happy about doing so on a meal that leaves me unsatisfied. The room itself is lovely and the atmosphere made it an enjoyable evening. But the food doesn’t live up to the atmosphere.

The experience was magnificent and the food was delicious. I would definitely go here again.
Service:
The staff here is super nice & friendly. This place actually calls you back when you’re on the wait list. That’s telling how the staff here goes the extra mile to give you a good dining experience. (Make reservations in advance if you can). Even at bougie restaurants like in Boston, I haven’t had the staff offer to take my coat. But this one did, with care.
Food:
They care about their food; the ingredients are locally sourced and cook to perfection. Their pasta is homemade! And it’s cooked al diente like it should. Try it out!
I recommend the fried risotto balls with red sauce. It was amazingly delicious and light tasting where you don’t feel heavy after eating it
For the entrees we had: (1) the homemade tagliatelle pasta with a white sauce and mushroom. I was cooked to perfection: al diente, light and rich; (2) the scallops were fresh, sweet, with a crunch on the outside; (3) the chicken was so moist and the skin was crispy; (4) last but not least, the steak was flavorful and cooked correctly.
Kudos and thank you to the staff at Clara’s!

The food was amazing, service and ambiance to match. We were a group of 8 people celebrating various anniversaries. Breads were delicious, pasta cooked to al dente perfection and all the flavors put you in a dreamy state. It had been raining all day and this meal warmed us. We started with arugula and beets salad, the kale Caesar, and caprese alongside their rustic bread. Across the table we had pollo parmigiana, pollo Milanese, scallops, carbonara, salmone, tagliatelle primavera, and capellini. Everything was plated and presented beautifully. The bar area and hotel are also so beautiful. A country feel with a modern and clean touch. We also inquired about the “speakeasy” space downstairs and heard they have live music in the winter. We shall be back!!!
