Overall, The River Restaurant is a great spot for a casual meal with friends or family. It’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in the Woodstock area ¹ ³ ⁴.
I ordered the maple chipotle salmon with veggies and a side salad. The salmon was a bit over cooked and dry as well as the veggies. I do have a gluten allergy. I wonder if the sauce was omitted because of that. The garden salad had a beautiful presentation. I have certainly had some that was simply iceberg lettuce thrown in bowl with overripe tomatoes.
My husband ordered the Donair flatbread. Which he really liked. He also had a side of sweet potato fries and an IPA from Big Ax Brewing.
Extensive drink list with numerous cocktails and local beers.
The service was satisfactory, though I did have to wait quite a while for both drinks and my meal. I ordered the fish and chips, but the haddock was a bit dry, and the tartare sauce was quite bland. The prices seemed a little on the higher side for what I received.
Overall, while it wasn’t a standout dining experience, it is a decent option considering the limited choices available in Woodstock. If you’re looking for a place to eat, you might find something you enjoy here, but I’m not in a rush to return.
The waitress was very nice and attentive.
The food was great. I had the seafood bowl which was lobster, shrimp and scallops in a cream sauce. It was delicious but I didn’t know it came on 3/4 bowl of mashed potatoes. I’m keto and didn’t eat the mashed potatoes. Otherwise it was delicious and is served with a light layer of cheddar cheese. I gave them 5 stars for the food (originally 4 stars) when the waitress came out and said they gave us a small discount for it not saying it was served with mashed on the menu.
My wife had the steak and gnocchi which was also delicious. The steak was tender and the gnocchi was perfectly cooked.
Our appetizer was battered Brussels sprouts bites. The coating is very light and flavorful.
Overall a great place to eat and highly recommended.
We came for dinner and ordered the tavern steak and grilled chicken club. We asked for the steak medium rare but it was slightly overcooked, however the seasoning was on point and we enjoyed the sauteed vegetables which tasted fresh and not frozen. The chicken club was tasty, but the chicken itself was quite small. We got caesar salads with both mains, which we liked as well.
Nice, casual local joint – you can tell many diners are regulars.
