Chef DJ’s salmon burger and Mac & cheese and his co-manager Anna’s raspberry lemonade pound cake honestly put my grandmother’s recipes to shame… The cake was so rich, moist, and the sweetness level wasn’t too much to overpower the flavors of the fresh ingredients.
I’ve been dying for a lunch place convenient to me with a soulful menu like this and smiling and engaged staff that’s dedicated to their craft. Dine-in or a quick carryout at Astrid’s is a lunch trip well worth taking. Cannot wait to check out happy hour!
Eye peas were like eating at my grandmothers on Sunday. Definitely recommend coming here to eat! The service was really good, plenty of seating inside and out! You won’t be disappointed eating here!!!
They have really reasonable prices. Main attractions are the meat and 3’s. My date got grilled chicken, mashed potatoes, squash casserole and fresh fruit (berries). I got grilled salmon, mashed potatoes, squash casserole and fried okra. pretty good assortment of canned beers. regularly price at 6-7$ but last night only $2. I got a nice local Trim Tab IPA that I have not had for a long time.
I liked everything much. the salmon was maybe a bit overcooked. the squash I wish had less cheese and that the squash was chopped up instead of just slices which were a little too crisp. large portion of salmon . Okra was best I ever had. lightly breaded and lightly fried. Mashed potatoes great.
But Sandi left disappointed . I did see the chicken breast was a bit small and looked a little burnt. She said it was hard to cut and chew. She loves mashed potatoes but not these. did not eat all of them or all the squash.
I would go back to sit on the deck and eat, but I don’t think I could get her to go back.
I enjoyed a delicious meal that highlighted fresh, seasonal ingredients. The dishes were beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The cocktails were also excellent, featuring unique ingredients that complemented the food perfectly.
The service was attentive and friendly, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. Overall, Astrid’s is a wonderful addition to the local dining scene, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable meal!
Ordered a wagyu smash burger w/ fries and a 2-egg breakfast. Burger was good, but cooked/toasted a little too hard and could taste the char. Fries were vattered which aren’t our preferred style, but still good quality. 2-egg breakfast was great! Homemade english muffin, nice fruit parfait (plain yogurt, fyi), and when oatmeal turned out to be unavailable after we’d ordered it, they graciously allowed us to subsitute in a small deviled egg order instead for no extra charge (which were good, as well).
I’m writing this with a heavy heart because I genuinely want to see local businesses thrive. After a mediocre experience 10 months ago, we decided to give Astrid’s another chance, especially since they were hosting a family-friendly holiday event featuring Santa, kids activities, free hot chocolate, $5 appetizers, and $7 cocktails. Unfortunately, our return visit was even more disappointing.
Service Issues:
The service felt like staff had never worked in a restaurant before. We waited an excessive amount of time for everything—drinks, food, even basic water refills that only came after I repeatedly asked. For a restaurant hosting a kids-centric event, this is particularly problematic.
The Kids Menu Problem:
Perhaps most baffling: they advertised a Santa event with kids activities but have no kids menu. When we asked if the kitchen could make simple buttered noodles—a standard accommodation at most restaurants—we were told “no.” This seems like a fundamental mismatch between their marketing and actual capabilities.
Food Quality:
The already limited menu was missing about half its items (they were out of stock). The $5 mozzarella sticks we ordered appeared to be standard frozen varieties, possibly from a grocery store, served without marinara and carelessly dumped on an oversized plate. Nothing tasted scratch-made; everything had the quality of previously frozen items quickly reheated. My salad ($10) was lettuce, pre-shredded cheddar cheese, a few red onions, dressing and tomatoes.
Bottom Line:
I understand restaurants face challenges, especially newer establishments. But when you advertise a family event, you need to be prepared to serve families. The combination of inexperienced service, inadequate menu planning, and disappointing food quality made this visit frustrating. I hope Astrid’s can address these fundamental issues, but I can’t recommend it in its current state.
It took a while to get our lunch. Like 45 min. Veggies and grilled chicken were mediocre but a hair in the mushy black eyed peas (think cooked way too many hours) were the disgust.
The bathroom was clean, and our server was polite, but I will not return to Ms Astrid’s. I’m sorry.
The squirrel in the kennel as we exited the porch/deck will keep my friend away, as well. Bizarre.
