Since renovating, it doesn’t have the same “Mom and Pop” feel, but it’s still pretty nice on the inside, and the comfort food is still very comforting. The staff is fun, our waitress wasn’t as attentive, but they were starting to get busy, so I can understand the level of care we received.

I was told that the Four Star Dinner in Cortland, Ohio had some great burgers. So I stopped in the other day to see for myself. Parking wasn’t an issue, they had street parking, a back lot & side lot. I was greeted to a cozy dining area with a very inviting atmosphere. My seating options were counter, table or booth, I always go for the table. My server was polite & friendly. She helped me with making my dinner selection. I looked over the menu, a great selection of comfort foods. A nice selection of breakfast, lunch & dinner entrees along with burgers and sandwiches. My burger was served up quick, nice and hot. I must say, the burger was absolutely delicious, I really enjoyed it. I had a very nice & enjoyable dining experience here. I strongly recommend that you give this place a try.

Disappointing and disgusting! No longer one of our favorite places to eat. I removed my earlier review praising our fish dinners at this diner due to a recent awful experience. The owners were informed about what happened, but they didn’t bother to reply. A simple apology would have meant a lot.

CONS:
Inexperienced, bad cooks! During this visit, the food was just bad. I got cheese ravioli, while my elderly mother ordered liver and onions.

> The liver was so overcooked and inedible that she couldn’t cut it, so they made a new one. When she tried to cut into the replacement, we discovered that they had just seared it on the outside. The inside was bloody and raw! My mom is legally blind, so she couldn’t see how undercooked it was and took a bite before I realized how bad it was and stopped her! Absolutely disgusting!

> My ravioli was undercooked, and the sauce looked like Hunt’s chunky sauce from a can, also not cooked properly. We’ve been eating here for years and have never encountered this sauce before. After the liver and onions fiasco, I couldn’t eat anything, so I took it home for later. I rinsed off the sauce and boiled the ravioli for 3 minutes, then added my own sauce. At least I managed to salvage my dinner.

PROS:

> Our server offered to prepare another meal for my mom instead of the liver and onions, but we were both feeling half sick by then, so she turned it down. The server then suggested a piece of pie for my mom as compensation and removed the liver and onions from our bill. That was the least they could do!

> They usually provide great service, and their fish dinners are top-notch, but after this experience, we won’t be returning.

> They consistently serve generous portions for the price, and their prices are quite reasonable.

> They recently remodeled, creating a better atmosphere and expanding their menu.

1st visit to The 4 Star Diner.

I’m giving them 5 stars on food, service, atmosphere, and cleanliness.

I had turkey dinner and hubby had liver and onions (don’t knock it until you try it).

The atmosphere reminds me of an upscale 50’s restaurant. Love the lights, the wallpaper and the music they play.

You’ve got to visit them.

I only gave 4 stars on food because I like my eggs fried hard … they almost had them hard … the yoke was still moist but not runny so I was able to eat it ! Portions are big for my appetite. Every waitress ive had is attentive and polite. I really like the new updates. Its very pretty .

Nice local diner. The decor changed from the last time we were here, but the menu was the same. Food was okay. The service was great, friendly and courteous. Prices were decent.

Visiting first time in awhile and was hoping for better. The Italian Wedding Soup was wonderful. But then we got chicken tenders which missed all points, was $13.75 for 5 tenders that looked like VandeKamps frozen fish. I would never suggest them. The cheeseburger was great and we wished that was all we got, if anything get a burger as it outshined the rest. The country fried chicken was okay. The meat really good but the breading was bland. Frozen fries and onion rings but not even crispy. Bathroom was “sticky” as well.

New to the area. Have driven by Four Star Diner. Always talk about stopping but the exterior is kind of grungy, parking a bit odd so we didn’t stop until this morning.
Once you get inside, you find a sparkling clean Mom and Pop Diner. A friendly staff ( Heather was great) and immediate seating. I took her recommendation of Apple and Cream Cheese French Toast. My partner chose an Irish Omelet.
The food arrived quickly and it was fabulous. Great huge slices of apple, light fluffy French Toast, whipped cream AND cream cheese…it was fabulous. The Omelet was equally good but the potatoes garnered special praise. It was a great meal.
The only criticism was the coffee was on the weak side.
We won’t hesitate to go back. And they do take away. And the Friday Fish Fry sounded great.
UPDATE 12/24/23: Another great meal. Love this place and the staff.
UPDATE 2/12/26: Wednesday usually stop in for Sunday breakfast but on this case stopped for dinner. Since the failed Gordon Ramsey intervention things have been weird. They kept some of the decor changes but dumped others. Dumped the new menu but kept price increases. And bills now feature a “supplementary charge”. The staff are still friendly but they recognize us and treat us specially. That said, it has changed here. With the prices and supplemental charges, 4 Star is not what it was.

That’s a FANTASTIC place. Been here last night, 45 min to close, they all stayed and made sure we got food fast and told us not to rush or anything. Waited 5 to 7 min for our food, and OH MY, you should try their fries! I think they bread them. The best fries I had – VERY crispy, mushy inside, perfect seasoning. The interior immediately made me go wow – that’s not what you usually see in diners, they should call it a 5 star diner, so many live plants inside and you can see whoever invested in this put a thought into it and a personal touch. I just enjoyed our dinner there, thanks to the staff, they were so kind. Had steak, ordered medium rare and they delivered a perfect medium rare. Thank you again and we will visit again!
