I ordered three of their signature tacos and a Jarritos, and was blown away. The flavors are spot-on, the tortillas taste fresh, and the quality of the ingredients is clear in every bite. This is true Mexican street food, not a watered-down version. Not tex mex.
The vibe is super casual—think Taqueria Ramirez in Greenpoint, but without the hype or long waits. The space is tiny (maybe 6-8 seats inside, plus a few spots at the outdoor counter), which only adds to the charm. The menu is surprisingly huge, and while I’ll eventually try a burrito, I already know I’ll be coming back for the tacos again and again. Bonus: they do a Taco Tuesday deal for around $10 that looks like a steal.
They’re on all the major delivery apps, but I’ll be ordering through Toast to make sure the business gets the best support (and I get the best price).
Honestly, this is exactly what the neighborhood needed. While I appreciate the newer sit-down spots like Olmo or Dolores, La Ruta Del Taco 2 fills a completely different void—an everyday, go-to spot for incredible food at a fair price. I can see myself coming here weekly.
It’s exciting to see authentic Mexican food thriving in NYC right now, and this place is a standout.
After ordering 4 tacos, a large agua fresca, and a side of guacamole, it took another 30 minutes for my food. The kitchen had plenty of people working, but orders were still coming out slowly, and only in the last 10 minutes did someone who seemed like a manager/owner jump in to help triage. When my order was finally handed over, no apology was given — and when they passed me my agua fresca, they mentioned they had no lids left. Carrying a large open drink on a 15-minute walk home was not fun.
Once I got home, I realized the guac I paid for was missing, and the tacos themselves were incorrect. One of the steak tacos randomly had 2 shrimp on top (I didn’t order shrimp at all). Thankfully I’m not allergic, but for someone with a shellfish allergy, this could have been serious. The cucumber lime chia agua fresca was fire, but the tacos lacked flavor. Which was shocking—they looked very good.
I understand there are growing pains with new openings, so instead of posting a review right away, I sent my feedback privately through DM. Unfortunately, their reply was a generic “sorry, we’ll do better” with no attempt to make it right — not even the missing guac I paid for. That dismissive response was honestly worse than the mistakes.
However order two Horcjata for my kids and the milk is spoiled. I would recommend to dont order form this place. As my personal option won’t eat for here again. I called and the manager said was good that I was making up.
La Ruta del Taco Numero Dos really itches the spot for the Mexican food that I grew up eating and loving. The California burrito is probably the closest I’ve had outside of San Diego. It is absolutely loaded with steak, fries, pico, and guac… and that’s it & that’s what makes it fantastic.
I usually order a Carne Asada burrito. My wife loves the nachos & California burrito.
The indoor seating is very limited and it is a somewhat awkward set up. With that being said, the food here is so good that it’s worth any slight awkwardness if it’s crowded. This is a great addition to the Bed Stuy neighborhood & I’m happy to now be a frequent customer.
Wishing the business all the best of luck & hope they continue to find success. Would be pretty chill to get beer added to the menu so folks can sling back a Modelo while waiting for the grub… but I guess that’s what bodegas are for.
