Sadly the food didn’t live up to the hype at all. We’ve been to many Mediterranean restaurants before so we are very familiar with the cuisine. Our appetizers (Spinach and Feta Borek and Lamb Manti) were slightly cold and lacking flavor and freshness, with a strange overly spicy olive tapenade on the side. Then came our main entrees of Striped Bass. It was supposed to be accompanied with saganaki, feta, and lemon-olive oil sauce. When we got our (very small servings) we noticed there was no saganaki (pan fried greek cheese) in the dish so we asked the waiter. He spoke the chef and said that the dish was simply just inspired by saganaki! We felt a bit mislead by it being listed on the menu and figured it should be included with the dish. Sadly the desserts weren’t good either with the chocolate cake being dry and crumbly and the lemon dish being very generic and lacking freshness.
For such a beautifully decorated and modern style restaurant we were very disappointed by the mediocre food and the service wasn’t anything to write home about either. Luckily there are many other great restaurants nearby that offer better food at a better value!
I started with the cabbage salad as an appetizer and absolutely loved it — fresh, flavorful, and a standout dish for me. For my entrée, I ordered the lamb rack. The lamb itself was average, but the orzo and olive tzatziki that came with it were amazing and really elevated the dish.
For dessert, I tried the chocolate cake. It was alright — not bad, but not as memorable as the earlier courses.
Overall, the service and atmosphere were great, and while not every dish was a hit for me, there were definitely some highlights that would possibly bring me back. A solid spot in Greenville, especially if you’re looking for a nice, slightly upscale dining experience.
The food on the other hand…. we didn’t have any savory food that night I was really excited about the dessert menu so we ordered everything they had, but we were pretty sad afterwards. The Sweet potato donut was filled with unseasoned yams and the dough itself was very tough. The macaroons were made perfectly but tasted of pure food coloring. The custard well I can’t even find the words. We were told it was made with milk instead of cream but appeared to be watery and or undercooked and flavorless. The cake was the best item on the dessert menu but it was cold and swimming in chocolate sauce. I’m sure the savory portion of the menu is great since I see nonstop amazing reviews about it but I’m just on the fence about going back to take the chance of trying it at such a high price tag.

Revisted the black sheep last night. The bar was occupied, and I was seated in the Cocktail Lounge. WOW delightful place to enjoy cocktails, unequaled from my experience in Greenville. Started with a Mojito, fresh mint, and a slice of lime. just the right sweetness for my taste. NEXT I was soon offered a seat at the bar; however, I was so comfortable and enjoying where I was being served in the cocktail lounge. Mari & Leah, thank you :))) I appreciate being served individually and exploring cocktails that I want to try. Mari is a MASTER, i think they say, Mixologist <3 And the black sheep has a representative variety of fresh-squeezed juices, fruits & and veggies. Ask Mari anything ha ha and Leah is so SPECIAL as well. Leah explored my request for a Hemingway daiquiri with Mari, born in Cuba, perfect. The black sheep was prepared with fresh grapefruit, fresh lime, and a maraschino cherry. All the ingredients were there for my first Papa Dobie. After reading more of Ernest Hemingway today, I was served his favorite Cuban daiquiri. I understand, he usually ordered a double, or two, ha ha. A delightful cocktail. Fresh and simple syrup made with pure cane sugar.. As the bar thinned out, I was offered my favorite seat at the front end of the bar and greeted by a couple from Pickens. The staff was kind and generous and allowed us to enjoy finishing our drinks. Mari had served me a French 75. Do you know how the French 75 was named? AI ha ha Thank you, the black sheep, for another enjoyable evening. especially your kindness and generosity> Omotenashi< look it up ^^ountain ^^an enjoying life, one day at a time
Black sleep has IMMEDIATELY claimed the title of best Mediterranean in Greenville. Our server Palmer was super friendly and informative. The food was spectacular. They’re going to rotate their menu so, if you go soon, you need to get the following: lamb appetizer (the pickled raisins somehow brought the entire dish together), the zucchini dish, and the lamb entree. Not far behind were the muhamara and the wagyu kebab. The drinks were also fantastic, especially the golden ark. Soon it will become difficult to get a reservation for this place, so get in while you can.
I’m sure the entire staff is amazing but I can promise that when we make our reservations moving forward we will always request a table in Will’s section.
Until next time Black Sheep… you were amazing.
The seating was beautiful and comfortable, the music was at the perfect level for conversation, and the atmosphere made for a great date night. The staff was welcoming, attentive, and helpful from start to finish. We’ll definitely be back.
They really put a lot thought and time into the beautiful decor, as well! This restaurant is a gem in our North Main community! Highly recommend this restaurant and we’ll be back!
