Takara Sushi is an independent Sushi store a little bit out of the way from heavy foot-traffic areas, but wins the favour among locals who are into Vancouver fusion-style sushi, sashimi and seafood with an elevated presentation.
Their approach to this cuisine is standout among industry peers with the use of novel ingredients (quail eggs and foie gras anyone?) paired with a deep understanding of traditional cooking methods. We found their Chirashi Don (seafood rice bowl), Scallop Motoyaki (seafood baked in the shell) and special sushi rolls to rival meals we had when in Japan.
For moments when you and your friends just want to treat yourself to food that is reminiscent of the best stuff overseas, what a relief to know you could just drive over to Burnaby.

Ordered a big sashimi bowl with salmon, tuna, hamachi, and ikura – portions are generous, roe pops with briny sweetness, and everything arrived cold and shiny.
Rolls like avocado and California are tight and fresh too, no sogginess.

I actually really like this place!
The salad was pretty weak though very basic, not much variety, and honestly not worth ordering.
But the chicken donburi is such a good deal at only $14. The portion is huge, the cutlet is thick and crispy, and the sauce makes it super satisfying with rice. The sushi was also amazing fresh ingredients, tasty rice, and full of flavor.
The restaurant itself is clean and neat, and the staff are super friendly and make the whole experience feel really comfortable.

We’ve been coming to Takara for over three years, and the food is always exceptional, consistently top-notch every time. It’s a family run spot, and Tommy, the owner, always makes us feel so welcome. The servers are super caring and truly the best, which makes the atmosphere even warmer and more inviting. Highly recommend

The food was good although a little pricey. The sushi and scallop motoyaki were on par with most other sushi restaurants around. The gyu don lacked flavour. We were happy to be seated quickly but the service was slow even though the restaurant was half empty and there were many staff. The coconut mango desert was a hit.

I used to like this place and ordered often, but the quality has really gone down.
The chiken karaage seemed to have been sitting for a while — it was soggy, very small, thin, and barely had any meat inside. It felt like I was just eating the fried coating instead of the meat.
I also ordered three rolls, but they were so small.
I used to love coming here, so I’m really disappointed. I won’t be coming back anymore.

Had a wonderful dining experience at Takara Sushi! The food was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented — definitely some of the best sushi we’ve had in the area. The service was warm, attentive, and made us feel right at home. The environment is cozy and enjoyable, perfect for both casual meals and special occasions. What really stood out was how family- and kid-friendly the restaurant is. They even have a diaper change station, which made our visit so much more convenient. Highly recommend for anyone looking for great sushi in a welcoming setting!

I ordered Sushi Combo which includes nigiris and I saw the chef throw at ton of rice into a rice machine. When the nigiri and maki came, the rice was so dense.
Tables are so close together that we were uncomfortable talking in the restaurant. I’m expecting a lot better care into their food and environment if they’re charging their prices.

Excellent quality fish at decent prices. Service was great and the manager was super welcoming. Got the deluxe sushi and it did not disappoint. Can get a bit loud if there are big groups.

Staff are always super nice, and the servers are attentive and friendly. Big shoutout to sushi chefs Tommy and Rick for always keeping the quality consistent. Takara is my favourite sushi spot—I couldn’t recommend it enough. The oyster motoyakis are to die for, and the salmon belly Aburi melts in your mouth. Truly a must-try spot!
