Just below the castle, in old town, we found this lovely little cafe, where we stopped in for a light breakfast one day. I enjoyed a tasty breakfast sammich and a delicious glass of fresh squeezed orange juice from the coolest juicer machine I’ve ever seen. They had a lot of breakfast (and lunch) options that seemed as tasty as the sammich I enjoyed. My wife enjoyed her coffee and pastry as well. If you’re in Edinburgh (LUCKY!), then L’etoile Salon de Tea is a great spot for a bite (or sip).

I absolutely love L’Étoile! This charming French café near Edinburgh Castle (along Victoria Street) has a warm, cozy ambiance that makes you feel right at home. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, adding to the delightful atmosphere. I tried the flan, which was delicious, and the black coffee truly deserves to be called “black gold”, it was superb. The hot chocolate was wonderful too, perfectly rich and comforting.
Overall, L’Étoile is the kind of café you end up recommending to everyone. It’s cosy, the service is wonderful, and the flan and drinks are genuinely worth going for.
I highly recommend it, I can’t wait to return!

A hidden gem. The understated cafe won’t jump out at you from the street, but the expertly done desserts look and taste so perfect that you know the chef is highly skilled. We always get a chocolate dome (pictured), something I couldn’t even fathom making at home and is so rich that it could take your chocolate cravings away for weeks. Everyone is flocking to Stockbridge for pastry, but you could have elegant patisserie in Old Town for less, and no long line.

Little hidden gem of a cafe in Edinburgh. Recommended to me/ taken there by a friend – it was all great. The atmosphere is relaxed, very clean, many drink options, delicious deserts and superb food. We had the paninis with salad, teas and a couple tarts. Great service, our waitress was so attentive, friendly, polite and professional. A must try if you’re in Edinburgh! We will be back again.

We had our breakfast here during our first visit to Scotland, and it was just perfect. The hot chocolate was warm, rich, and exactly what we needed on a cold morning. I had the Scottish breakfast plate, which was hearty and delicious. A cozy little spot that made for a lovely start to our trip.

The gluten-free chocolate pastry is fabulous in taste, texture and beautiful served. It’s a 10 out of 10! The rest of the menu is also very delicious and most of all they have a good eye to allergies. The service is excellent! Absolutely recommended!

Awesome gluten free desserts! Shown here are a chocolate mouse cake and a slice of carrot cake. Both were amazing. Staff is super nice and welcoming. Having celiac and eating here is very natural, everyone knows what to do. All items are clearly marked gluten free.

Delightful and so tasty!! We smelt the amazing aromas of wonderful food when walking by and just had to book a table, especially since they cater to gluten free as well
We were seated before our reservation time which was wonderful and even though it’s quite a busy place, we weren’t too packed in
Mirko was our server and he was attentive, helpful, and great when explaining the gluten free dishes, and I was ecstatic to find most of the items were non gluten containing ingredients as well as actually gluten free.
Of course they cannot guarantee non cross contamination as it’s a small kitchen and Mirko explained that as well as the menu, but I had no issues after
I had focaccia with olive oil and rock salt, absolutely delicious, followed by a pizza that was – by far – the best gf pizza I’ve ever had.
My partner had the chicken and mushroom mains as well as garlic bread to start (which he said was the best garlic bread he’d ever had) and my son had the calamari for starters and a rich and creamy prawn and pesto pasta for mains.
We had no room for dessert but we saw several being brought out to other tables and they looked decadent and generous!
All in all we had a wonderful dinner and would absolutely recommend
