Having heard about old town Torrance, I’m excited to see so many food places, except almost none have outdoor seating. However this place does.
But here’s the problem. The manager.
I had been there once before and the wait staff is super nice. So I can’t fault them. And the fish tacos are good.
But then there’s this one guy. The manager? Loud. Drunk. Aggressive. Usually he ignores people unless you know him.
So again, for my second time I brought my service dog. And it was one problem after another.
First was the customer outside who drunkenly explained my little dog could not come in despite the law saying otherwise. Second was the doorman who had no clue and had to get permission to let us in. Then we did get in and went to the patio as instructed. But that’s when manager loudly and aggressively came toward me in a huff with a cocktail in hand exclaiming with slurred words that I cannot have a small bottle of water for the dog, yet not offering us a small bowl for example. And had me literally put it outside on the public sidewalk. I was calm, quiet, and compliant. So he really had no reason to behave the way he did. Be nice and ask nicely. But no.
Who knows? Maybe he was having a bad day before I got there and decided to take it out on me. I really can’t say what would justify this behavior. So I brushed it off.
Then as we sat by the fire pit he said we couldn’t sit there with the dog. So we moved to another table. And finally the waitress came over to tell us the kitchen was closed despite it being around 8pm.
We simply got up and left. Never to return. And went across the street to the new Japanese Gaburi chicken who has drinks and food to 11pm and even brought a treat and water bowl for the dog. Plus their food is fantastic.
My advice: skip Keegan’s and go to Gaburi. In fact go anywhere else than Keegan’s. Give your business to someone who values you.
Food is good but nothing to special..
Our server was great and it seemed most if not all the servers gave great service..
I’ll probably go back as it is walking distance, but when they close the canopy for evening I will be leaving
