We decided on the taco plate for kids (#9) which came with a taco al carbon and refried beans and rice, the enchilada trio and I had the El Yanito. My kids wouldn’t touch their food, and after eating the beans, I realized that they were awful. Probably the worst refried beans I’ve ever had. My “fajita burrito” was covered in melted American cheese. Similar to Velveeta with nothing inside of the tortilla except for beef. It was about the quality you’d expect of Taco Cabana. The enchiladas all tasted the exact same in the trio despite stating on the menu that they were all different. The chips were not homemade and the salsa had not a hint of spice to it. It was very “tomato based”.
Bathrooms were disgusting. I walked in and walked back out because the floor around the toilet had not been cleaned in years it looked like. The entire place needs a major remodel and facelift as it looks exactly how it used to almost 15 years ago and it showing its age.
Definitely will not be back. The food hasn’t improved and there are just too many better options nearby.
Because they were busy, we decided we’d just enjoy our lunch and leave, skipping the birthday song. I had already told one of the waiters it was my dad’s birthday, but as we were getting ready to go, the man in the photo told us, “Hold on, we’re going to sing, don’t leave.” I thought that was thoughtful, and I said how nice it was.
Then he came over with a plate of nothing but whipped cream and a cherry. I assumed it was just symbolic, like a stand-in for cake. But as they sang, this man suddenly smeared the cream into my dad’s face. At first, when he dabbed a little on his nose, I thought maybe it was meant to be playful, but then it escalated. He kept smearing more and more all over my dad’s face, even putting the cherry on his nose like a clown. My poor dad sat there completely horrified, and I was frozen in shock, unable to process what was happening.
We left immediately, but the image of my dad’s face, covered in cream, humiliated in front of everyone, just kept replaying in my mind. What should have been a happy, loving memory of celebrating his birthday is now forever ruined by an act of thoughtless, unprofessional disrespect.
This restaurant used to be one of my absolute favorites, but now it will only bring back awful memories. I will never return. The staff must be trained to understand boundaries, this kind of behavior is not playful, it’s humiliating. What happened was unacceptable, and it broke my trust completely.
Our waiter started off by asking if we wanted skinny margaritas after we had already ordered waters. We politely declined, but he insisted, asking us if we were sure. It felt a bit pushy and set the tone for the rest of our meal.
As for the food, it was quite frankly, awful. I ordered the enchiladas al carbon, and the beef fajita meat tasted like it had been boiled with absolutely no seasoning or flavor. To make matters worse, there was something inside the enchiladas that looked deep-fried, which was completely unappetizing. The refried beans on my plate looked like they had been roasted and were unappealing. When my plate arrived, it was scalding hot, so much so that I had to wait to eat my food because it was too hot to touch.
My friend ordered the huevos rancheros, and her eggs came out hard-boiled instead of the soft-cooked eggs you’d expect. The onions on top were slimy, making the dish even less appealing.
Overall, the food and service were far from what I expected. I won’t be returning and would not recommend this place if you’re looking for quality Mexican cuisine.
