* The security/door guy is extremely aggressive and profiling you from the moment you walk up. They will keep your I.D. from you as if it is their property. – It is a power trip from a low paid position who probably only wishes they are actual law enforcement.
* The bartenders are profiling you as well. They clearly saw us waiting patiently and made us wait for ever, skipped over us and took the order from the People BEHIND us at one point.
When we spoke up the bartender then said, “If you do not like it you can leave.”
Do not go here. Apparently they have a long history of treating people of color like this, but do not put yourself in that kind of position in a town already ripe with hostilty.
Plus, it smells really bad near the bar area.
I have screenshot this. Have it deleted and I post again.
There have been many stories about this place having a reputation of being shallow about things and being very harsh about other stuff that might not be a big deal.
But this was no laughing matter, whoever served her that drink should be cautious and remember NOT to leave your drink *unattended*
While waiting for our friends to meet us for dinner at Pho Tower, he even went out of his way to bring us snacks, peanuts, peanut butter pretzels, and some amazing organic granola bites. It turned a simple wait into a really fun and comfortable experience.
The conversation flowed easily, the atmosphere was alive but relaxed, and the energy of the place was just right, not too loud, not too mellow. Between the great service, $3 wells, and a dollar off taps with plenty of delicious options, it’s honestly one of my new favorite go-to spots for a drink in Kansas City.
The artwork inside adds even more character, eclectic, creative, and full of personality, just like the bar itself.

Highly recommend Kelly’s Westport Inn. Great people, great drinks, great energy, it’s the kind of place that reminds you why local bars are still the heart and soul of a good night out.
Hi Terrill, sorry for the delay responding. I was on vacation and did my best to avoid emails.
Kelly’s does not have security officers nor are we public property. It sounds like you might be wanting to reach the Westport Public Safety office? They are run by a company named Chelsea Brown. Hope this helps and sorry to hear you had a bad experience.

From watching games, to hanging with friend’s and running into familiar face’s through out the city it has made me come to realize who the true runner uppers are and who runs this place should know that it’s a business and since I’m not a big spender here and don’t believe that I had done anything so horrible to where I should be banned from this place not trying to make people wonder if I’m friendly or not but in all of reality I mutually respect the bar’s decision and appreciate them allowing me to be here in the past I am not a trouble maker or a problem solver but I will continue to keep a rich mentality and move on away from this Establishment
