Maxwell’s Handcrafted Burgers & Shakes is a fun restaurant in downtown Frederick featuring delicious burgers from locally sourced Black Angus Beef on our house-baked buns. We use the best quality ingredients to create amazing burgers, fried chicken sandwich and vegetarian burger options as well as vibrant salads. Our shakes are made with our own house-made soft serve ice cream. We offer a wonderful selection of organic fountain sodas in addition to beers, wines and bourbons. Our corner location is filled with work from local artists that adds to the vibrant esthetic of our restaurant and allows artists to sell their pieces in their neighborhood.

I stopped here after I went to the MVA. This was my first visit but it won’t be the last. Outstanding service when I asked for recommendations. I ordered the fish sandwich with fries and and hot chocolate. It was the best fish sandwich I’ve ever had, and the fries were also delicious. The hot chocolate came in a fun holiday mug since I was eating in. If I lived closer I’d come here all the time.

Came here for dinner and was impressed. Burgers were fresh and delicious. Some of the better in Frederick. Did the build your own which was nice. Fries were good fresh cut. The fry spice wasn’t my favorite. Hot dogs were awesome too. Big juicy dog. The HOMERUN WAS THE MILKSHAKE. Huge milkshake so creamy and would get 100x over. Sat Nextdoor at 10th ward and had food delivered which was also a nice touch

Atmosphere is a 4 because there’s a good music vibe in the kitchen but it’s loud enough to clash with the background music in the sitting area. I’d rather hear that great buzz more clearly, especially hearing the kitchen staff singing along to Down Under from Men At Work. Had a kind of Johnny Rocket’s nostalgia vibe that made me smile.
Food is a 4.5 really, but no half stars. Got the Maxx Stack and it was pretty solid, especially at the $14 price. Two issues: one is my fault, asking for American cheese added kind of spoiled the experience a bit with how salty the American cheese was. Just stick with the smoked cheddar and you’re golden. The other issue is my Med-Rare order had a Rare top patty and a Med-Well bottom patty. Also didn’t see any of the bottled beer priced on menu or at the cooler, and it came to $7.50 which given the domestics were only at $3 it was a bit of a shock.
Service is straight 5. Very polite, very kind and attentive. No complaints at all.
Overall 4.5 if I could. Just a few hiccups but not enough to discourage me from recommending this place and coming back again. Just avoid the American cheese.

Stopped in at Maxwell’s on Main and tried their BLT with bacon jam — absolutely incredible! The bacon jam takes the classic BLT to another level, giving it a sweet, smoky flavor that pairs perfectly with the crispy bacon and fresh lettuce. The bread was grilled to perfection with a nice crunch, and every bite was packed with flavor.
Friendly service and a laid-back vibe made the experience even better. Definitely recommend this spot if you’re in Frederick and want a sandwich that goes beyond the ordinary. I’ll be coming back for sure!

We stopped after some shopping for a snack, splitting a shake (that the crew split into two cups), a Hawaiian hot dog, and some crispy Brussels sprouts. All were wonderful, and the staff was very friendly and efficient. The Brussels sprouts included orange pieces, and both the Brussels sprouts and hot dog had some tasty pickled red onions on them. I would definitely stop in to Maxwell’s if in Frederick!

Great atmosphere! Food tasted great. A couple of things had a little kick (spicy) but were very tasty. We had the BBQ Chicken salad and the Wagyu Burger with side of Braised Kale w/bacon. The staff were awesome! From an ex food service worker this place was on point! We will definitely be back!

First time here, based on other reviews online. One bite and it became obvious why so many consider Maxwell’s to have the best burgers. They are fantastic. Everything you want in a burger: juicy, tasty, and with a slight crust kissed by flames. The fries are also delicious, with the sweet potato tots being the perfect combination of savory and sweet. Add a milkshake when you order: You won’t be sorry. I’m hooked and will definitely be back again and again and again…..

Excellent experience! Food was very good. My wife and I appreciated the uniqueness and freshness of the menu. We have our own food trailer business and appreciate places that go the extra mile to be original and made from scratch as possible. The only reason I have food at 4 stars was I personally felt the burger was a little salty for my taste. That said the pumpkin milkshake was probably the best shake I have ever had!

He was full of energy, smiled, and genuinely made my wife and I feel like he cared that we came into the business. The milkshake he made us looked awesome worthy of a photo. His attention to detail was noticed and appreciated.

This is now my favorite burger place… Ever! I love that the brioche buns are made fresh in house. I don’t usually eat meat but was turned on to this place by friends and actually enjoy meat for a change. The burgers are cooked perfectly, a great availability of choices. The french fries are amazing. The best I found and I love the option of their brussel sprouts, which seem more like dessert than a healthy vegetable. Don’t miss their selection of sodas.
Also, the team working there is Frederick’s friendliest. The whole place has great energy, comfortable environment and has become go-to for showing off Frederick to my friends or just for a great meal.

Loved the vibe of the place in downtown Frederick. My husband and I both ordered burgers well done, one wagyu and one black Angus. His came pink. The service was phenomenal as they quickly remade him one, cut it half to double check that it was cooked, and offered us a free dessert as an apology. He loved his burger and so did I! The burgers were very well seasoned. I loved the fries as well, and the chocolate milkshake was yummy I would definitely go back! Thank you!
