Been here multiple times and will continue to come here whenever I have a craving for indonesian food! Portion size is generous. The sides are all delicious. The drink options they serve are good. Recommend the Beef Rendang and Bakwan.

Great food and lovely service. They give you a rundown of everything available which is super helpful. HUGE portions and super reasonable prices as well, and they take cash and card! The whole family is really welcoming too.

Hate doing this. This is a mom & pop run restaurant. Hard working people. I was disappointed with the food. Beef rendang was below average. Chicken is overcooked and tuff. Mix vegetables was tasteless. I know my Indonesian food very well. Traveled there a few times. I am not Indonesian. My expectations are high. If you don’t know the cuisine, you might like it.

Hardena, a gem we discovered years ago on Food Network, finally made it onto our Philadelphia itinerary! While street parking can be tricky, a nearby paid lot offered a convenient solution. The restaurant itself is cozy, with just a few tables for dine-in. It’s more of a fast-casual setup, where you order at the counter. Keep in mind, there’s no AC or fan, so it can get warm.
Despite the heat, the food truly shines. It’s delicious Indonesian cuisine, though not specific to the Surabaya region. Unfortunately, some items sell out quickly, which was the case during our 3 pm visit. While it’s on the pricier side, the unique flavors are worth the splurge. Highly recommend Hardena, but be prepared for limited seating and a potentially warm environment.

Absolutely a gem of a place. A family run restaurant with authentic flavors and wonderful service. It was my first time visiting, the owner was very patient and explained everything in detail. As you can see my piled high plates, we tried to get a bit of everything. The sambal is to die for – I bought a whole container of the vegan version with garlic to go. We got quite a bit to try the varieties, and had plenty leftover for the next day. They offer many vegetarian and affordable options. Highly recommend!

I dined at Hardena in December of 2022. There is ample street parking, just be sure to bring Park Mobile or quarters. It was one of my first experiences eating Indonesian food, and I genuinely enjoyed it! The collard greens and beef were a major highlight, however, my favorite bite was the fritter!! The interior is small, so there is limited sitting, however, it was cozy and fun! For the price, the meal is well-worth it, with large portions (including rice!). I highly recommend trying some of their drinks too (especially the teas)!! Overall, a great Philly meal!

Food is on the pricier side because you are charged based on how many sides you get + you have to get a certain number of sides per each plate. Expect to pay between $20-$30 per plate (rice and 2-4 sides). Seating-wise, they can accommodate 14 people maximum with small tables. Service largely depends on how many people are in line because they serve the food cafeteria style meaning they scoop food from trays onto plates before handing them out to each person individually. Generally the service is pretty slow because it’s only ever one employee. However, she is nice and able to answer any questions you may have about the food. I always leave here super full. Beware that food is secretly kind of salty or has MSG because while it is tasty, it will make you THIRSTY!

Such great flavors and huge portion sizes. I loved the way everything was cooked and the bold, tastiness of the various dishes. Tried the egg/tofu, collard greens, goat, potatoes, fritter, and jackfruit stew. Standouts were definitely the potatoes and jackfruit stew! Would highly recommend this spot.

The vibe was good, it feels like eating in a warteg in Java.
The flavor was exactly the way it was in Indonesia. However, it’s too greasy for me. I guess Indonesian food has always been oily, but I just forgot about that fact.

The food here was so delicious! The coconut milk fish curry is complimented really really with rice as its base. The eggplant was very flavourful and light. The corn and veggie fritters reminded me of onion pakoras I used to get home! This restaurant is definitely a must-go. You can order takeout or eat at the restaurant, but please know that they have limited seating. I’ll bring my friends here soon!
