Ribs were kind of tough. Flavor was good, bark was good but dry and tough. Definitely needed more time in the smoker. Possibly the ribs had been previously frozen before cooking. Chicken was also kinda of dry lacked flavor. Beans were delicious, corn pudding was very dry, sweet potatoes were greasy and to crispy.

I finally stopped in after passing this spot on my trips to and from Baton Rouge and I should have gone sooner. We grabbed a few snacks from the hot foods and a slice of the Creole cream cheese cheesecake. Everything was so good, but that cheesecake is still haunting me until I can stop back in for another.

The lean sliced brisket sandwich is the best I’ve ever had. It is so tender that it melts in your mouth. I will stop every time I pass through town. Highly recommend this place.

The Francis Smokehouse is a staple in the community for great BBQ and specialty meats. If you’re staying in the area or just passing through, you have to give it a try. I’ve been eating here and trying different menu items for the past couple of years and I have never had a negative experience. I mostly like the pulled pork and roast. I like to get 2 lb of smoked pulled pork to bring home with me and make sandwiches with later on in the week. Outstanding food and service, two fat thumbs up!

I didn’t have high expectations since Louisiana isn’t known for BBQ. And being a Texas native, it is interesting to see how different states make their own twist on it. When I stepped into the smokehouse, I love the decor. The employees were really nice.
I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and sweet potato waffle fries. My boyfriend ordered the brisket sandwich with corn pudding and baked beans. BBQ is expensive. When it’s done properly, there’s no regret on the purchase! Bread was soft, bacon wasn’t overcooked, and the hamburger patty was juicy. I love those fries! Hot and fresh.
I took a bite out of the brisket sandwich. It melts in your mouth! Housemade sauce had a balance of sweetness and a little kick at the end (not too overpowering) Almost wished this place was close by, it’s that good!

Good food in the heart of St. Francisville! We stopped in after touring the Audubon State Historic Site for a meal and it was really good. The boudin balls are HUGE and very tasty. We also tried a 2-meat, 2-sides barbecue meal with a half chicken and brisket. The chicken, while juicy, just didn’t have much flavor to it. It somehow smelled smoky, but really didn’t taste smoky or barbecued. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t very memorable. The brisket, however, was amazing! I’m not a huge brisket fan so you’ve got to have some pretty serious brisket to get a thumbs-up from me, but this lean, tender, juicy brisket is something worth going back for.
As for the sides, we got baked beans and corn pudding. The meal also came with a piece of garlic toast. The toast and corn pudding were wonderful. The beans were good, but they were too sweet. I love sweet baked beans, but these were just a bit too sugary. They weren’t really bad, just overly sweet enough for us to avoid them on future visits.
Their menu a fairly huge selection which is nice, but it seems like they’re trying to offer too much at once. When places do this something usually suffers, but since this was my only visit I can’t say that’s the case here.
They have tons of prepared meats along with boudin balls, boudin links, meat pies, cracklin, and more. You can grab a snack, a meal, or meats to cook later at home. It’s the kind of place I’d stop in frequently if I lived in the area.
A big plus for us were the picnic tables out front since we brought our dog along. You can bring your best friend and still enjoy a great meal! I recommend trying The Francis if you get a chance. You won’t be disappointed.
