So sorry for the pictures in advance hunny the plate didn’t stand a chance. I couldn’t even hit the highway before eating the food. I was craving a home cooked meal before heading back to Richmond and ordered the Salisbury steak w/ gravy, mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes. The Salisbury steak was delicious well flavored. I loved the mash but think you all might want to add a touch more butter or even garlic herbed mash would be great. The sweet potatoes were yummy and flavorful just wanted them a little less soupy but that’s personal preference. Overall the flavoring was there and the menu options were nice. That sweet tea was fire I need a jug of that next time for sure. I will be back to another dish .

The food is bait and switch. I ordered fried wings , i got cornish hens wings. It could not feed my 12 month old grandson. Another custimer ordered bake chicken, it was pittiful. Them chicken, were chicks wings. We had a bad experience years ago, i was hoping for a better experience. Save your money. We will never eat frim this bait and switch resturant!

The food is pretty good soul food. I prefer the smothered pork chops and gravy, mac and cabbage. I can’t say they disappoint. The only thing is the yock is not seasoned already so for someone unfamiliar with yock, they would not get the full experience by trying to figure out how to season it on their own. They do however make the seasons available in the restaurant but do not have them available in a take out form. It is hard to season someone else’s food if you are picking up for them.

Place was highly recommended however I feel a little let down when we went in, place is a little dated and could use an updated with out changing the overall fell cause it feels good.
We had shrimp & grits, fish, mash and collard greens were OK but not what you expect when you think of soul food. Very little flavor if im being honest.
Overall I wanted to give a better rating but I was not impressed, I won’t write them off totally cause everyone has a bad day but I will def be trying agin..

I truly wanted to give a better rating but I was not impressed. The atmosphere could use an upgrade. The service was OK, they were very nice and accommodating but staff needs to stop being loud. Their conversations could be heard and were not for the restaurant. The food was OK and I mean just ok. First of all its served in a take out tray. Yes a take out tray, even though we dined in. Secondly, I could taste that the chicken was cooked in burned grease, my cabbage, rice and gravy had no flavor; the corn bread was OK though I think it was store bought. The liver and onions were OK but not what you expect when you think of soul food. Very little flavor. So for me Bowman’s is a no. I don’t recommend this place at all. But just so you know they were quite busy with takeout orders. I guess that’s why it took nearly 45 minutes to get our food. So if you have time to waste waiting for bland food give them a try.

I ordered 4 meals at $20 per person for my work team and everyone was disappointed. We had 3 orders mac and cheese, only one order was completed because they ran out. They should have kept the 1 they gave us. Chicken took 25 minutes and wasn’t done. This was a waste of money and time. Ordered a side of gravy and it looked like a brownie. Never Again!!

I’ve been back since my first review and still enjoy the food just as much! I highly recommend the honey glazed catfish! It was amazing!
First time coming here and I loved it! I loved the atmosphere on Friday. The DJ played some old school R&B throwbacks which is my type of music. Not to mention the food was amazing! Nice home cooked feeling! Will definitely be back.

Cost too much 45.00 for 2 plates,their crab cakes were small,the servings were too small ,and no drink,had to go to the store to buy a drink, the food was not good,but the corn bread was awesome.
