If I could rate this place a 0 stars, I gladly would. This place charged 16.99 twice for a buffet, and we barely touched food at all, stomach feels like the food was all bad. My boyfriend and I stayed for about 10 minutes and instantly left after experiencing the food tasting like metal, like maybe from the trays not being cleaned? I occasionally I order take out and enjoy it, so I was looking forward to a good meal. Severs were fine but the female manager made us feel like we were the ones in the wrong, and the manager said nothing and just stared at us, a simple apology could’ve helped but simply not eating here again. $39 for a terrible meal and a couple sips of our drinks.

We came across this restaurant while passing through Gallup on our trip. Later, we realized that this Chinese restaurant and the sushi place next door were actually connected inside, possibly owned by the same person.
We arrived on a weekday evening, slightly later than the usual dinner time. Besides us, there was only one other group of customers, who seemed to have been there for a while. At first, the staff appeared to be in a meeting, so no one greeted us. We seated ourselves, and after a moment, a server came over to assist us.
He was very nice. After a long day of driving, we were exhausted and took our time looking at the menu, but he remained patient the entire time. He even kindly refilled our personal water bottles with hot water for free. His attitude was consistently polite and welcoming.
I ordered a bowl of shrimp miso ramen. To be honest, the taste was quite average—not particularly delicious. The shrimp was a bit overcooked, and the noodles felt slightly undercooked and not fully loosened. But at that moment, I just wanted a hot bowl of noodle soup, so I didn’t have high expectations.
What really stood out to me was the service. Even though we only ordered one bowl of ramen, the server remained exceptionally courteous from start to finish. He never showed any impatience or mentioned a minimum charge per person. Instead, he even brought us an extra empty bowl so we could share the noodles more easily. When we were about to leave, I almost forgot my water bottle, but the server ran after me to return it. I was so grateful!
I highly recommend this place for its outstanding service—it truly exceeded my expectations!

We go to King Dragon several times a year. Food isn’t too bad, but noticed lately, the overfried entrees were so hard, couldn’t bite into them. An elderly customer at the next table told me she couldn’t eat much because of the hard fried items too. Like the coconut shrimp, a favorite, but lately, it is hard cooked and in tough clumps. We used to go to the old establishment at the plaza, that was remarkable food, really good in those days. Note the service workers are always nice and helpful during our visits.

Something with the food changed, like the chow mein dont look or taste the same, It was oily and different. The worst part was 30 minutes after eating the buffet, I had diarrhea with an upset stomach. Thats gonna be the last time I’m eating here again. Service was pretty good though, no complaints there. Lastly, the atmosphere is pretty much the same, no change.

Building was nice, service staff was adequate. Food was DEFINITELY not worth it. Don’t waste your money. Bad sushi, dry meat products. Over cooked shrimp. Surprisingly the Jello was good.

The waitress didnt put our order in, the guests that came in after us got their food before ours. Waited nearly an hour. Our waitress never came back to check on us. And staff members were walking around clueless. I dont understand how the chef was behind when there wasn’t much people dinning in?

Glad Mike and Joann legacy is still thriving. Miss both of them as business owners. Under the Ownership change and Management it is failing. Under Mike and Joann many generations have watched the restaurant grow and expand to definitely become one of City of Gallup, McKinley County, and New Mexico State Police to be on high Alert and it is ashame to even see a Historic Restaurant that thrived so well to be taken out by another misfortune. Everyone watch out for your receipts at time of check out when dining inside or taking out. I am one of the retired Under Sheriffs Grand-daughter who takes care of him. King Dragons Owner, Management, and staff wrongful accused me of something that I do not have control on the technology equipment. Of course they refused my service because their system glitched at $1.00 when our intention was to pay full price which was $56.00+ a year ago this month when it was snowing during our round trip 2.5 hour travel just for dinner to go. Now my grandfather request’s that I wait in the vehicle for him in case if something happens give him time if it takes longer than normal to rush inside. His health is important. We ordered via phone at that time. This receipt proves my point of a system glitch and wrongful service refusal. FYI : When Retired Under Sheriff, one of his son’s, and myself Brittany Morris went to dine into the restaurant several weeks later the staff members seen us enter with no other customers in the lobby, just to wait until it was filled with more customers to embarrass me by calling my full name sounding like a close relation status to me and announced we are refusing your service need to leave. To those customers if you recall thank you for witnessing with no knowledge of what had transpired in the past. My grandfather now asks me to remain the vehicle and if something happens on King Dragons Property to ensure City of Gallup and McKinley County Sheriff’s Office is Aware when they pull his banking information, etc upon the investigation and ensure for them to immediately pull the cameras for review. Now he relys on other customers to notify me that they are calling on-site Emergency Response while I wait outside. The environment of it was really about attracting younger generations, no longer family welcoming like how it was under Mike and Joann.

Very disappointed. I have been eating here since it first opened and today was the worst i ever experienced. When i ordered from the menu that was online to the person on the phone the cost was 6$ more per person so online apparently isn’t up to date. So for a 54$ meal outrageous comes to mind for Chinese food. Then i sat in the drive thru for over 20 minutes i was one of 4 cars in line waiting and then i finally get my food it was cold. Then the pupu tray that came with the meal was burned and dry. Everything was over cooked the Chinese ribs were worse than beef jerky and the pork was burned couldn’t even bite into it. To have to pay that much for burnt inedible food makes me sick to my stomach and i will never return to this restaurant again. Sad when i used to eat here 3-5 days a week. King Dragon is not what it used to be!

I realized when the new owners took over some things might change, but I didn’t think it would be this bad. My absolute favorite dish was the Lemon Chicken. The Hsu’s use to give you two full chicken breast with a thick sweet and sour lemon sauce that made your face pucker! That’s not the case anymore for $14.00 I got a 4 piece chicken tender meal cubed with a watered down yellow sauce that didn’t taste sweet, sour or anything like lemon. I wanted to continue on with this place, but today was my last order placed with King Dragon. You’re better off with Panda. Trust me.
