Update Sept. 2025
Got another delicious dish for lunch that looks and tastes amazing. Great people and great place to eat at.
The portion sizes were big for dinner and we had to pack things to go after dining.
The service was impeccable, she was attentive, kind and patient. She helped our kids understand what kind of meal they choose and what it came with.
This is a lovely restaurant.
Our first time in after the ownership change, we noticed that some security cameras had been added. We noticed them immediately as they flash very bright lights at you while you eat. It really sends the wrong message to the patrons. It feels like “hey we don’t trust you and also this is a seedy part of town.” They’re also just very bright and distracting. Take these down!
Today I came in to grab a to-go order. Upon pulling into the parking lot, I noticed that the interior was brightly illuminated. It felt like pulling into an urgent care. I walked and got in line. The customers in front of me were talking to the employee at the counter about the new owners. They were much more professional than this, but what they were basically saying is that the new owners almost never visit the restaurant or do any work. Don’t be those owners!
Anyways that’s a minor gripe. The real issue is how they’ve butchered the atmosphere further, beyond the cameras, by adding bright white bulbs to all the fixtures and turned the “classic dark, moody, Chinese restaurant aesthetic” into basically the same feel as a hospital.
When I heard them talking about the owners, I interrupted and added “were these lights their decision?” The employee told me that no, that decision was made by the staff. I told them it looks quite bad and the other customers agreed. They said customers complained about it being hard to see (pretty much any restaurant serving dinner is dimly lit.) Additionally, they stated it was easier to clean up with the bright lights. This I 100% believe as I have never been more aware of the trash on the floor than I was during this visit.
Owners, I hope you see this. This is the best Chinese in Jackson. Good on you for not changing the recipes! But you gotta fix the interior aesthetic. I personally wont be choosing to eat inside anymore but as a takeout spot, it’s just too far from town. As the furthest Chinese restaurant from Jackson proper, Yen King thrives as a sit-down experience.
The service was great; server was attentive and food came out quickly.
Atmosphere was great. Almost felt like sitting at home.
We tried the Yen King Chicken (amazing – slightly spicy), Princess Chicken (similar to Kungpao but so much better), and Moo Shui Chicken (best dish! Goes best with fried rice and no pancakes).
Overall, a great dinner place! Highly recommend it!
