Second time at Iron Horse in Unionville CT. Totally different experiences. Went about a month ago. Bar was busy. The bartender Alex was great. I was surrounded by regulars and the vibe was fun. Half price burgers on Mondays made it even better. Talked with guy next to me. Whole place just felt comfortable. Burger was decent, not great but it didn’t matter.
So I was in the area again and thought I’d go back. Walked in, Alex was there as was another bartender. Never got his name. Place died out as soon as Alex left, coincidence I don’t know. Ordered a burger and a beer. Food came pretty quick and was actually much better than the one I had previously. However the vibe was totally different. The male bartender hung out with a friend or favorite regular. Had to work to get a refill. Place felt dull and unwelcoming. No more half price burgers on Mondays either it appears. I probably said 15 words the whole time I was there. Didn’t enjoy myself in the least and was ignored. No big deal but I thought maybe I’d found someplace special. Will look elsewhere.
So kudos to Alex. Without her you have nothing. Rated 3 stars just for her personality. Tonight was a one-star experience.

Great service, but the kitchen messed up our order that took 30 minutes to get out. Didn’t feel like eating without my wife so I enjoyed nice cold food. Never really get to eat out anymore, but what do you expect from a crappy restaurant. Photo attatched of crappy sandwich. Oh and the Mac and cheese sucks too

Fun, great place with great energy!! Staff is friendly and accommodating. They have a generous happy hour menu and the food is great. On this visit we had the pizza. Very generous with cheese and the crust makes it. This is the pizza all my neighbors rave about and I know why!! Great place to unwind, meet friends and have a great time! Can’t wait to return.

So, my manager at William Raveis Avon office announced we were having our annual Damon Runyon Research for Cancer fundraiser at a bar in Unionville. I immediately said if its at the same bar we went to last year…forget it. She replied “no no no it’s at Iron Horse Sports Pub”…. located in the plaza behind McDonalds.
Let’s just say…. I came home and told hubby all about hit. If you want better than average food with good size portions, generous pours on the adult beverages, fantastic TV’s. This is the place. Love the giant bar. The only place that I know of now that has a giant bar is Carbones in Bloomfield and The Talcott Mountain Collective in Simsbury which that bar length sets the record.. We ordered to share the brussels sprouts, nachos and calamari. I wanted my own bowl of everything. We packed the house and we didn’t have to wait at all. The Trivia was very well run. Our trivia team name: “the naughty nurses” . We have a patent on that name. The MC (who was a hoot) did not need a microphone and their music selection was tops. Want a group party or just a night out….this is the place for sure!

Alex was Amazing! She’s literally… the reason we will be back tomorrow … and of course the food was top notch ❤️ !

5 Stars for me! Laid back atmosphere, friendly staff and yummy food. Definitely has become a go to place for me and my friends. Alex, the bartender, is wonderful. I give her a main ingredient for a drink and tell her to surprise me. She always delivers something super yummy! Definitely a place I can go to alone and feel comfortable or a night out with friends.

The Iron Horse has quickly become one of my favorite local spots. The atmosphere is exactly what you’d want from a regular hangout – welcoming and full of character. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick drink or out with friends, it always feels like you’re in good company.
Special shoutout to Alex—she’s friendly, observant, and knows her art inside and out. Her cocktails are spot-on, and somehow remembers everyone. No joke, went in last summer with a friend, we just returned this spring and she remembered both of us. It’s now in the normal rotation.

Hey…. We need often get delivery form Iron horse…. This time pizza, grinder, fries and garlic knots were all cold. The delivery was promised at 7p but didn’t arrive until after 7:20. The garlic knots were over done w no garlic butter sauce. They are usually drenched in it and tasty. Dry and hard
