Our first return to Kalvas in about 9 years, having moved off island in 2018, but we are glad we did return. Josh was our waiter and he was awesome. Great energy, welcoming and helpful. New York Steak was delicious. Husband had the prime rib, a Friday night special. He said it was perfect, having ordered medium. All staff that attended our table were great. Had a nice quiet window seat by a heater, appreciated on a chilly evening. Would definitely recommend!

Kalvas Restaurant in Parksville absolutely deserves five stars. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt warm and welcoming, and the staff went out of their way to make us feel taken care of. The food was outstanding — beautifully presented, full of flavour, and clearly made with care. Every course came out hot and perfectly timed. We especially appreciated the little details, like the attentive service and the comfortable, relaxed vibe. It was one of those meals where you leave already talking about when you’ll come back. Highly recommend!

We came for our anniversary which is on the 13th of Feb
We knew we had to reserve in advance as it is a busy weekend
We booked the same afternoon and when we arrived we saw the restaurant pretty full so we anticipated a slow service. To our pleasant surprise we were wrong. We were served immediately. The lady who served us, Taylor, was superb. She gave excellent advice and was very tentative to our needs the whole time.
We started with their signature onion soup which is the best I had outside the Latin quarter in Paris. Just this would make me come back to Parksville again and again. We live on the mainland.
Our main was a veal schedule for me and the prime rib for my wife. Bothe were superb and the side mash potatoes and vegetables were superb
I’ve shared the dessert as there were too many options and the soup and main portions were large so we decided to share the desert
Will definitely come back again to taste their main dishes and other deserts and martinis

The atmosphere, server, drinks, and our scallop appetizer was great. However, our mains fell flat. The halibut was overcooked and came looking like a “patty”, not a piece of fish. Partner said their ribeye was decent. Felt overpriced for the quality, but the plating was pretty.

Oh my. If you are looking for comfort food with a sophisticated edge this is the place for you. The staff (including Josh who started out here in high school!) are attentive and knowledgeable – not to mention warm and friendly. Our steaks in peppercorn sauce were perfectly done even with my specific request for medium rare with more rare than medium. They serve fresh veg as a side – and I always judge a cook by their respect for the veg.
The atmosphere in a big log cabin is comfy and very BC.
It was a birthday celebration and although I was hesitant to- I am a total fan.

Lovely high level dining experience. Beautiful log house ambiance with attentive and professional waiter.

Complimentary bread was a delicious focaccia sliced into 6 pieces with garlic butter and an olive oil/balsamic emulsion. Not a lot of bread for 3 people though.

Escargot was fantastic. The tray has spots for 6 escargot but they actually load it with extras. Comes with a thin slice of garlic bread good for soaking up the sauce.

Seafood Sampler was great. All the fish was delicious. Could use a little more sauce to mix with the rice though. The parsnips (I think that’s what they were?) could have been cooked a little longer.

The cheesecake was big and rich. The berries are a nice touch. Could easily split it with 2 people.

Our whole group got filet mignon, which was perfectly cooked with a tasty glaze. Delicious veggies and potatoes. A few of us got various shell fish added. The lobster, shrimp and scallop were well cooked and melt in your mouth. The cheese cake was delicious, and we also were given some flourless chocolate cake, which was the best I’ve ever had.
Service was wonderful and attentive. They brought a second 2 person table up to accommodate for four without reservations. Our waiter was very kind, funny, helpful and polite.
10/10 would recommend

We made a reservation for Valentine’s Day in advance. We were hoping to have a great time. The place has a great atmosphere, but we were served our food after almost an hour and a half of waiting, no apologies or compliments from the restaurant staff. The prices are too high, even for those who are falling. The steaks were cold… and this is for $60 for 12 ounces, if carrots are all there is in seasonal vegetables, then I feel sorry for your chef who doesn’t know how to balance proteins with carbohydrates…. what a waste of time on such a wonderful day and the place is not worth the money.

They have great steak here. All three of our steaks were cooked to perfection (medium rare). The accompany vegetables paired with the house red was excellent! Dessert choices very nice cheese cake and tiramisu delicious. Staff professional , polite and helpful. Recommended if you want a real good steak. Ive heard the prime rib is very good but check what days it is available
