Golden House Chinese is located in a strip mall on the northwest corner of South Harrison Rd and East 22nd Street. Fry’s is the plaza anchor.
Ample nearby parking was abundantly available. The exterior was clean and I wasn’t panhandled.
Warmly greeted by a enthusiastic staff upon entry. I was immediately made to feel welcomed.
While busy, I was seated and my drink order was taken immediately. The interior was clean, pleasant and free of any noticable issues. The menu is varied and impressive offering something for everyone including a large vegetarian selection. I ordered the egg flower soup, chicken egg rolls and beef lo mein. Upon being seated a plate of noodles arrived with a side of sweet and sour sauce, it proved tasty to nibble on.
The soup arrived almost immediately with no lag time from ordering to presentation. I found my soup hot and fresh, it was extremely delicious.
In record time the egg rolls arrived. I asked for hot mustard which the server delivered immediately along with a warning about it being strong. I’ve had hot mustard before so I knew what to expect, however theirs was rather intense and as advised it was very strong. Despite the intense sensations relentlessly attacking my sinuses, I thoroughly enjoyed the hot mustard mixed with the sweet and sour sauce and willingly subjected myself to it again and again.
Without missing a beat the lo mein arrived immediately on top of egg rolls. The lo mein was delectable. It had a wonderful flavor and a nice assortment of ingredients. I do enjoy onions but found the lo mein to be excessively loaded with onions to the point that l started removing them. Some of the beef was excessively thick and less tender then other portions. l truly enjoyed the entire meal.
I would have preferred greater time gaps between each plate delivery, but everything arrived hot fresh and delicious. My bill was just under $30 which l considered high, but I did enjoy myself.
My server was refreshingly attentive and l never needed anything. My water was filled and refilled as needed without issue.
Over all, I truly felt not just welcomed, but l also felt valued which is almost non-existent in the post pandemic world of indifference.
I’ll gladly be back.
the food is delicious the service is fast and friendly
I have always taken it to go but it looks like a friendly inviting place to dine in also
I almost always choose vegetable dishes and there’s plenty of menu to explore
The chow mein noodles they serve at the start were stale.
The guys had Beef with Vegetables and Pork with Vegetables. Hubby ordered his spicy and it was a bit. (Nothing’s ever hot enough for him.)
Both dishes had a bunch of fresh veggies and each sauce was different. The sauces were also not too gluey.
I got the house special with Sweet and Sour Shrimp, Eggroll, Egg drop soup, Fried rice.
The rice was really boring.
Soup was good.
Eggroll ingredients were mushy, but tasted good.
S&S Shrimp was good until I got to the last 2, and then the batter was not fully cooked.
The waitress never asked how the food was, so my husband called her over as we were leaving and the owner was there as well. Owner very apologetic and said they would have fixed it. (But, I figured, as it was the last two pieces, didn’t seem worth it.)
