This was my second time at southern grill. My first experience, our wait was well over an hour on a not so busy evening. By the time the tables food was done, the waitress came over and said they were out of my entree. Instead of waiting longer, I declined when they offered to fix me something else. Our second experience, it was still over an hour and 15 min wait for our food. I ordered the steak and chicken Philly and was brought just a steak one. The waitress had another one made up but I only took two bites out of the first one to realize I wasn’t even going to eat the new one. I also asked for sweet tea both times I’ve been and been brought back unsweetened. The waitress was super sweet and very accommodating though.

Dined in. The food was fantastic! Went around 5:30 p.m. and it was not crowded at all. We got our food pretty fast. The loaded pork nachos were a great choice, and the breakfast burger was on point. Definitely will be back.

Highly recommend Southern grill!! By far the Best ribs I have ever had from any restaurant!! Everything my fiance and I had was absolutely amazing!! Salsa was awesome!! French fries were perfect.. cole slaw was amazing!! Run and grab you some ribs!! Will most definitely be back there to eat again!! Give this restaurant a shot!! You will not regret it!!

Ordered for myself and some coworkers. Food arrived hot and was good! Monte Cristo is a little too crispy but yummy. The fries were still good even with the travel. Other said the philly was amazing! Would eat here again.

Went for the first time, we started with a few drinks that no one knew how to make and they began trying to google them. Not to the fault of the staff that was there, our waitress was also answering phones, making salads, dressing wings, trying to make drink, and jobs of probably 4 other people. All the while the owner sat at a bench and scrolled on his phone. Our appetizer came at the same time my wife’s food was brought out, our dipping sauces were all frozen, and my food was not brought out for another 30 minutes. I ordered a medium rare ribeye and it was brought to medium well/ well done. At this point I was a bit frustrated and asked to talk to the owner, when I asked him if he would take the steak back and take it off my bill, he said “it’s still got a bit of pink in it”. I can understand growing pains and being a young restaurant, but I went in and planned to spend over $100 on our dinner. The 2 people on staff that was there were very hardworking and nice, but we learned they have both only been there less than a week. You would think the owner would help his new and understaffed workers, but instead he chose to scroll on his phone at a booth and argue with customers. He eventually agreed to comp my steak once the waitress told him they had swapped my steak with another customer. The rest of our food was very good, ribs were excellent, as well as our appetizer sampler. Unfortunately the experience was just not the best and we will not be going back.

It’s in an odd location, parking is limited and cramped, between two buildings. If you have a large vehicle you may want to park somewhere else. Was greeted right away. Very friendly servers/staff. Small area, but seems cozy for couples and smaller groups. They offer a good variety, but a couple of items were not available, like ribs, which are a featured item on the menu.
Spaghetti, also on the menu was not available. Food took a little while to get to us, as a result, my steak was barely warm, although it was cooked correctly. Their steak fries are actually crinkle cut fries and were heavily salted. I understand this is a new restaurant and still working through the flaws. Hope they get it worked out.

We have been wanting to try this place, but I will not go back. We waited forever to be acknowledged and seated. Then forever for a waitress. The iced tea tasted “old” and couldn’t drink. The food was terrible. Chicken was not fully cooked…pink. Sent it back. Recooked the same chicken and came back greasy. Sliders were greasy. We could not finish our meal. We told the waitress that we were not happy, but she just handed us the check. She was pleasant but couldn’t handle what little business there was. Will not go back!

My husband and I have visited the Southern Grill several times and I can tell you, they NEVER disappoint! The steaks are the absolute BOMB! Much better than that OTHER much more popular steak place in Portsmouth. The sandwiches are awesome and the pulled pork is superb! I would give 10 stars if it would let me!
