Been in a few times, for Liverpool matches, and had the same bartender each time- Cormac! So friendly and attentive. Our Guinness always is a proper pour, new friends we meet are always amazing, and the energy in this pub is always immaculate. I usually get the spice bag, my husband usually gets full breakfast. Only been during the day, we love a day drink at a great pub and Black Taxi always delivers!

Authentic busy public house, very in touch with Irish roots. Feels more authentic than other Irish themed public houses in center city.
In the Fairmount area near the museum/Parkway district, it is popular with locals. That said, although I appreciate and admire the authenticity, I always feel out of place when visiting, but that may be because of the strong neighborhood presence in groups compared to the solo bloke like myself dropping in for a pint when in the area.
I’ve never sampled the food to have an opinion.

Best Guinness pour in the city nobody else comes close. My main spot for about 3 years and I never had a bad experience. Great staff, lovely clientele to watch a Leeds or Liverpool match with. I mostly went for drinks as the food was a slight bit more expensive than most places, but it was good 99% of the time I had it.

We visited on New Year’s Eve for lunch and ordered sandwiches and an appetizer. The bar was half full but eventually filled in a bit. It was going on an hour before any of our food came out.
We were trying to be patient but it became hard when both tables next to us that arrived after us received all of their food. Our burger and chicken sandwich finally came out and were good. We checked with our waitess about our Irish fries which apparently she never heard us order. No biggie at all – we mentioned we were good with our sandwiches and would pass on our fries as the point of an appetizer is to munch before your meal.
A few minutes later the fries came out and a different waitress asked if we wanted them and said “good news!” – we reluctantly said sure assuming they’d be taken off the check. They were not and when it became time to pay our waitress looked over my shoulder to see what tip amount I entered on the handheld device.
The food was pretty good and the atmosphere here is cool but I would recommend Hilltown Tavern or Bishops collar over this place for better service.

Food was great! Sausage rolls and fries were fantastic. Beer was on the warm side and the service was slow. Seemed liked only 2 waitresses for all of the outside tables. Inside was shoulder to shoulder so they may have just been overwhelmed. We definitely would return, within walking distance from Eastern State Penitentiary.

I’ve been here on several occasions but I’m far from a regular. Regardless of my order, the food is good. The place was packed and we grabbed 4 seats at the bar for our group of nine, coming and going so all 9 never at the same time. Service was good when those of us sitting needed a drink but our friends standing behind the bar stools didn’t get any attention.
If you’re looking for a loud, crowded bar to meet people and don’t mind waiting between drinks, this is perfect.
We were looking to share a few drinks and catch up with friends, but this was the wrong choice for us.

Just landed after midnight. Got to my place i am staying tonight. Wanted a drink and googled this place. Good vibes.
And my espresso martini was good. Nick the bartender was awesome and welcoming. First time in Philly for my bday week I’m impressed. Will be a regular here the next five days lol

Best Fish and chips I’ve probably ever had. Fish IS fresh! It was so soft and succulent; perfect, crispy batter. Skin-on, hand-cut chips were also delicious. They provided genuine, British Heinz malt vinegar too! It was better than the last fish and chips I had in England in 2010. I actually wanted to get photos of the chips but I was so balled over by how authentic and delectable the fish was, I just tucked in! I paid $25 with a modest tip. A little pricey by my standards but worth every penny. I sat at the bar and had great service, even got to chat with a couple of real Irishmen. They took Google pay which is always more convenient.
With the number of pubs in the area it must be some feit to edge ahead of the competition, but Black Taxi is ahead by far. Don’t miss this if you’re visiting Philly.

We had such an amazing stopover in Pilly and Kate is the best and sunniest bar keeper I have ever seen, extremely polite, very professional and she gives the black taxi a very special touch! Food was very good and drinks obviously also! You shouldn’t miss the Black Taxi in Philly !

Different Cheesesteak #1226. Special guest eater all the way from Houston, Philip. We got the cheesesteak with fried onions. It came with French Fries. They have a nice beer selection. I was shocked by how many young people were there. A young man told me it would be shoulder to shoulder in a few hours. The cheesesteak was good. The meat/cheese/onions deserve a better roll. Or scoop this roll. There was a lot of cheese so maybe a touch more meat for balance.
