This place is a Hidden Gem, Tucked on a busy corner with an amazing feel to the atmosphere inside. Small but fitting. Came to order some of their house French Toast. Was greeted as soon as walked in by Meshack. The French Toast turned out amazing. If you’re in the area and want an awesome experience don’t hesitate to stop here.

Nothing fancy on the inside —- in fact I thought I accidentally walked into someone’s house at first —- but maybe that’s part of the charm. It feels real, unpretentious, cozy and all that stuff, and the food takes it from 3 stars to 4. I had the Shirred Eggs (baked and smothered in tomato sauce) which were to die for, and the hash browns also elevated the whole thing; they were fluffy, almost mashed in the inside, with a crust-like outer. Perfect to sop up the tomato sauce with. Seating is tight downstairs, and although there is a “patio” , this time of year it’s covered and there is no natural light so it’s pretty dark out there.
Service is absolutely delightful. It feels like a small neighborhood business run by a family that you simply want to support — or at least I do.

I stepped into this unassuming restaurant without expectations. The kitchen is visible from the counter, there are only a few tables in the downstairs dining room. There are 2 other dining rooms.
The menu is limited to breakfast and lunch, with a brief menu rather than the multi page tome of chain restaurants. The staff is kind and helpful, if a bit overextended. And the food was – delicious, delightful. I had French toast with a sublime lemon aspect to it and fresh fruit. Again, the portion sizes are not the chain restaurant massive sizes, but i walked out satisfied but not stuffed. Overall a really enjoyable experience.

French toast was mushy, soggy, almost pudding like consistency. I thought maybe it was a fluke however 4 out of 4 orders of it arrived in the same icky fashion. Hash browns were over salted, cold & more like a mash potato then a hash brown. The garnish they used of grapes an strawberries were the only thing that was decent. Most definitely will not be going back.

Eggshells in my Benedict!!! I really hate giving bad reviews but sometimes you just have to say something. It would be wrong not to. We went here for breakfast on a Friday morning. The dining room was full and we were told to grab a seat in the covered outdoor area. It was beautiful, with greenery and patio lights and wrought iron patio sets, but the loud traffic noise right next to us made it hard to hear at times and was off-putting. The lady we first spoke to came out and gave us our menus and took our order. She then brought us our coffee and our food and and asked if we needed ketchup or hot sauce and very quickly came back with it. That was the last time we saw her!!! No one ever checked back to see how our food was! No one asked if we needed refills! When I was about two bites into my meal I chomped down on eggshell! There was a square inch piece of eggshell in my salmon Benedict!!! I don’t understand how, since the eggs were poached and Hollandaise sauce shouldn’t have eggshells either, but there it was! I carefully poked through the rest of that half and put the shell aside to show the server. She never came back but a younger gentleman came and took care of the other party in the room and sat a single party and just ignored us. I eventually started eating again after waiting for a time for our server or the gentleman to come to our table. No one ever came back and we both ended up finishing our meal and coffee. The young gentleman came back to the room when someone else entered the dining area. He finally took the order for the single seat who had been waiting for quite a while. We called him over before he could leave again to get our check and show him the shell I crunched on. I was very nice about it because I don’t think being rude helps anything but I guess I should have been. He did not apologize but took our plates and came back with the bill. No comp, no discount, no apology! I paid $25 for a salmon Benedict with eggshells in it!!! It really is a shame because the actual food was delicious. It was the best Hollandaise I have had in Oregon and the salmon was plentiful and perfectly cooked! In spite of this I will not go back and cannot in good conscience recommend this place to anyone. My husbands meal was good too but not worth the bad customer service.

I wanted to keep this gem to myself but that would not be doing anyone justice because this is a run, don’t walk, situation Cafe Du Berry in Portland has the best breakfast in town. We had the eggs benedict, pepper steak and French toast and I would order the same thing again. All dishes were flavorful and large portions! Not only is the food unforgettable but the service and staff are quick, friendly and attentive. The restaurant has three different seating areas with all different ambiance vibes but all are amazing!

A Portland classic! This is a small family business and you feel all the love that is required to make an eatery work across multiple generations. Everything is excellent. The best French toast anywhere. If you disagree, I’ll fight you 🙂 another favorite the scallop and mushroom French style omelette. Merci!

Lovely cafe with friendly staff! The food was exactly what we asked for and more. I really enjoyed the House special French Toast. The lemon custard was perfect between the bread. The house hollandaise was delightfully simple. Hefty portions on each plate we definitely had some to take to go. Will be happy to return!

This was our second visit. The first visit we waited a very long time for our food. This time most things came out but one persons food dragged for a while. The food to me could use more seasoning and seemed fine.

My buddy took my wife and I here for brunch after we finish our hike. He been here before and recommended it for lunch because he said their French toast is amazing. This is a mom and pop type of breakfast place so it’s not well known. When we arrived, he parked on the street and they seated us in their tent dining area. My friend went with their French toast, my wife got the scallops and mushroom omelet and I went with their French waffles. The size of my waffle was pretty big but I don’t think it was worth the price of the food. The syrup I think they give with it is sugar free because it wasn’t sweet to me and the French waffle had a plain taste. My wife and my friend enjoyed their dish. Our dish also come with the side of fruits but it was only like 2 pieces of orange and 1 strawberry. The service we received here was amazing, our waiter was attentive to our table. If you dine inside the restrauant, the second floor dining room will remind me of eating back in the old days. They only have 1 bathroom here so be aware of that.
