Let’s start this review off right
After trying a few seafood spots around Texas that didn’t quite hit the mark, I finally found a place that got it right. Big Daddys delivered exactly what I was hoping for — fresh flavor, perfectly cooked seafood, and that satisfying crunch done the right way.
I ordered the fish and shrimp combo and asked for it fried hard, and they nailed it. The texture was spot on, the seasoning was balanced, and every bite tasted fresh. The shrimp paired perfectly with the fish and really brought the whole plate together.
You can tell when a kitchen takes pride in what they serve, and this place definitely does. Great food, great experience, and absolutely worth the stop.
I’ll definitely be back before my time here is up.
The Texas food tasting tour continues.

Don’t judge this book by its cover! Once you walk in the door, you are taken from a strip mall exterior into a spacious restaurant with high ceilings and fun, vintage decor, reminiscent of a West Texas dance hall, with plenty of comfortable seating. The hush puppies & fried okra were amazing. The chicken fried steak was passable, not great, not bad. But my disappointment came from the mashed potatoes & cole slaw. These are two items are pretty simple but they were so, so bad. Someone boiled a potato, smashed it with no butter or milk, and put about two tablespoons on my plate. The cole slaw was limp, almost like it had been microwaved. Service was friendly and prompt, and I would definitely give this place another chance.

Place was cold to start off with. Bathroom was even colder. Food seems to be cooked ahead of time and not cook to order. Management seemed to care more than the server, which the server wasn’t attentive after receiving our meals to check in with us. Place wasn’t busy. Not saying not to eat here. We will try it again another time.

Genuine feedback: I hope my honesty won’t result in being barred from sharing my experience. Upon visiting this establishment, my initial expectations weren’t met. With a background rooted in a rich seafood culture, I anticipated a culinary journey that resonated with my upbringing. However, what I encountered fell short.
While the fried fish was commendable, boasting a crisp exterior and tender interior, the other offerings left much to be desired. The shrimp, unfortunately, lacked the texture and succulence one expects, being flattened and melded with the batter. This resulted in a uniform consistency reminiscent of a hamburger patty, rather than the distinct bite of fresh shrimp.
Moreover, the oysters were overshadowed by an excessive coating of batter, diminishing their delicate flavor and rendering them almost unrecognizable amidst the breadcrumbs. On a brighter note, the hush puppies offered a unique take on the classic, and the green beans and mushrooms were a delightful surprise, showcasing culinary skill and attention to detail.
In terms of service, I must commend the staff for their exemplary customer care, particularly during peak hours when wait times were inevitable. However, despite the warm welcome and efficient service, the overall dining experience left much to be desired.
In essence, this establishment felt akin to a larger-scale version of Long John Silver’s, catering more to family-oriented dining than to those seeking an authentic seafood experience. The discrepancy between the inviting interior and the mismatched exterior was particularly notable, giving off a misleading impression to passersby.
While the food quality leaned towards the commercial end of the spectrum, I remain open-minded and willing to revisit in the future, in the hopes of experiencing an improvement in both culinary execution and overall ambiance.

Food was great! Took a while to.be seated and to pay our check for an otherwise mostly empty restaurant. Plus it was freezing. I do recommend the food though!

This place definitely goes unnoticed for the experience. I myself am guilty of judging a book by it’s character. I attended a meeting at Big Daddys. When I arrived at the location I thought it was a mistake. I judged the outside location of this restaurant without ever stepping foot in it. If it wasn’t for that meeting I would’ve never known what I was missing out on. I heard from customers while inside the establishment how some have been coming to Bid Daddys since they were kids. I heard another ordering three dozen hush puppies to go and this is after their meal. I couldn’t stay long enough to eat. I did go back with the husband and folks this place is one of them places that you remember being in as a kid.. it gives such a welcoming atmosphere. The staff not only very polite.. but you can see they love this place . When you see that people working somewhere are connected it’s no longer just a job they’re family. The Food was absolutely amazing…I ate more then my Share of banana pudding… guys it wasn’t like they threw that together…it honestly reminded me of my grandmother’s. If you haven’t been here you should …. even if it’s to have a beer with some friends at the bar area..I spent a good 30 min just walking around looking at all the timeless pieces on the walls. These guys are definitely go unnoticed. If you support small businesses and definitely ones that have been holding on 30 years+ you owe it to yourself to give them a gander.

This place is pretty good! I like coming here when I want a quick catfish fix, the beers are in plastic glasses so I can’t give 5 stars sorry! I wanta cold frosty mug of beer! The other stuff besides the fish isn’t the best of the best either but it’s ok, just stick to the catfish and you’ll be fine, the green beans are really good and so were the hush puppies. The raw oysters on the half shell were really really good! Come try it out!

It is rare in this city at current time to get good service, let alone great service. I have eaten here multiple times recently. Each time I was a Met with the most courteous and friendliest waitress and staff. I haven’t seen in this town in quite sometime. On top of that the food was more than expected. I had the fish dinner. And the last time I was in I had one piece that did not meet my desired specifications. I brought it to my waitress attention. And she was more than happy to take care of the situation. I would recommend anyone looking for a great meal in an extremely relaxing atmosphere, to give this place a shot.

Wife and I went in for lunch. We were seated, waited 10 minutes before the waitress acknowledged us, 5 more minutes and she went right by our table to a pair of gentlemen who came in a few minutes after we were sat down and asked for thie drink order. Mind you, we still have no drinks. Got up, walked out and will never return to Big Daddy’s catfish again

Tried this place with the hopes that it remained me of the way I used to eat growing up. Didn’t disappoint at all! OMG the fried catfish was sooo super tender! Nice batter not too thick….I loved it. Great meal, I wish I lived here just for this restaurant. Please consider opening one up in San Antonio. Rose was super sweet and gave great service. Thank you to y’all for a great meal away from home.
