I’m a sucker for pan dulce and this place kicks off HARD.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a place in the valley that offers Breakfast, Lunch and/or Merienda.

Because I ate lunch I really didn’t get a chance to drink coffee but I did take some pan dulce home and it was great.
The back story of the owners is great and they were running around helping where they can.

The place has been around for more than 50 years from what the owner told me. They know exactly what they are doing.

The waitress didn’t speak much English and I didn’t speak much Spanish, but we figured it out. Special today was fideo. This restaurant makes the chicken on the bone with the soup and it makes a world of difference in the flavor. Truly amazing. The beans that are served on the side are top tier. I would have been happy with a bowl of these beans and some tortillas. I wanted to try a fajita taco on the side, but they would only sell them as a plate of 3, so that’s a missed opportunity there. Overall I would definitely return. Another positive is that they stay open later than the other places downtown. They also do not ask for a tip? Not sure if I should have left some cash on the table, since I paid with card.

I wanted to share my thoughts about a restaurant that holds a special place in my heart. This establishment has a rich history, one that dates back to the times when my father used to bring me here. It has always been a unique experience, reminiscent of home in Mexico.

Whether it’s for lunch, dinner, or simply enjoying a delicious piece of bread, this restaurant captures the essence of comfort and tradition. It’s a place that feels like home, and I cherish every visit.

Today I am saddened worst chillaquilles ever. They were already mush before I started eating. I understand they get soft with salsa. But this was like atole. . I like them crispy

Born and raised in McAllen, This place is near Historical Status. I’m 50 and my parents would bring us here when we were kids. They in turn, would frequent this place in their younger days and would talk about it. I don’t live in McAllen anymore but this is a must stop before leaving the area whenever we visit El Valle. Now it’s my turn to bring my kids and enjoy the food and atmosphere. Las galletitas de azucar are the bomb! Thank you for keeping this place alive. Saludos desde North Texas! God Bless!!

Absolutely phenomenal experience. From the moment you enter are greeted with a smile and top notch service.

Had their breakfast tacos with chorizo and eggs and were just spectacular.

Also had the opportunity to try their baked goods and my god they were something out of this world.

Highly recommend.

I remember coming downtown shopping with my parents as a child. This was my grandpa’s Go To place for pan dulce before heading home. As you walk in to this restaurant, you’re taken aback with the nostalgia of the past. They still have their original 50’s style retro dining along the left side. Very reasonable and affordable breakfast/brunch menu prices. It’s going to be your every day Mexican home cooking. My husband especially loves how they are the only ones who will grill his biscuit like dad used to.
