On another weekend, we came by for a birthday dinner. Most of us enjoyed our food but not everything was a hit. Calamari was good. (Forgot to take a picture of this) this was better than many spots in Orleans but the size was a tad bit small? Anyway. I got the Peking duck breast, my MIL got the steak, and my hubby got the st Martha’s Korean fried chicken. That was the least favourite. The chicken lacked sauce and the batter wasn’t that good. Still, Peking duck breast had good flavours and texture. Wished it was sliced though. Beans were pretty good but a bit heavy on the sauce. Still ate it all. The steak size was massive. Wasn’t really 8oz haha more like 12oz. No one’s complaining about that. Anyway. We’ll be back. Probably for brunch though.
We showed up without a reservation right when they opened at 5pm, luckily they accommodated all 4 of us at the bar.
I had the crab cakes, delicious with lots of flavor, could have been at tad crispier but the tartar sauce made the dish, so fresh and creamy. Love this place, whenever I’m in Orleans, this is my go to spot.
Lots of parking, wheelchair accessible.
I have frequented this restaurant with my family and friends since its opening many years ago. Throughout my earlier visits, I was consistently satisfied with the quality of both the service and the food provided. Over the last year, I returned on four separate occasions: twice for lunch, once for dinner, and most recently for brunch.
During the two lunches and the dinner, I found that the level of service remained good. However, the quality of the food did not meet my previous expectations. This decline in the dining experience became more noticeable with each visit.
At our most recent brunch, attended by three of us, we left the restaurant feeling disappointed. Our server did not introduce himself or offer a smile, and his interaction was limited to taking our order. We began by ordering coffees and juices. Since we were not ready to order our meals immediately, I asked the server to return in five minutes, which he did.
One of my guests ordered the Blueberry Mascarpone Crepes but was informed that this dish was unavailable. I asked the server why he had not informed us about unavailable menu items before taking our orders, but he could not provide an answer. My guest then opted for the Brioche French Toast. When it was brought to the table, it was missing the custard and berries. The server explained that they had run out of custard and needed to be reminded to bring the berries. This lack of attention left my guest unimpressed.
Another guest ordered the Benedict. While she felt it could have been a good dish, her experience was marred by the fact that the poached eggs were cold. I chose the Della Carne Omelette, which I found satisfactory; however, it would have been better had the omelette not been overcooked.
The restaurant was not full, with approximately 15 patrons present. There were two servers and only one cook working. Despite the moderate number of guests, it took 35 minutes after ordering for our meals to arrive. This lengthy wait contributed further to our disappointment.
Given these recent experiences, this visit may very well be my last at this restaurant.
The view on the kitchen is a nice touch with the flame coming from the pizza oven.
Great service from the staff, we did change our reservation time and they’ve been great to accommodate us!
Generous on the wine portion, we can’t complain about that!
We will be back!
The menu has changed (not yet on their website) and it took us a bit longer to make our choices. My husband and I shared the crab cake appetizer and we were quite surprised when it arrived, as they were battered, never seen it prepared that way. It made them very « mushy » and we could hardly taste the crab… very disappointing. My friend and I had the scallops as main course; four small, overcooked scallops, three slice of leeks and half the plate of black rice. My husband did enjoy the mussels, however the fries were cold… seriously! Our server never came back to check on us, as she has alone and quite busy with a large group.
The best part was the dessert, red wine poached pears with brownies – very yummy and generous portion.
Overall, our experience was quite disappointing, it will be difficult to return.
