Im a very tough critic and could not find a single flaw in our experience last night. Every dish, and we and 4 apps and 6 mains, were excellent. Great flavors, perfectly balanced and beautifully presented. The service was friendly and attentive. They truly seem to care about your experience.
Bread was all good too. I travel to india for work and often entertain clients there at fancy restaurants. Jalwa put them all to shame. We are lucky to have them in Raleigh. Can’t wait to return.

Jalwa Indian Bistro is an amazing spot for authentic Indian food with bold flavors and great service. If you’re looking for a high-quality Indian restaurant with delicious, well-seasoned dishes, this place is a must-visit. Everything we tried was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked, with rich spices and balanced flavors that truly stand out.

The ambiance is warm and inviting, making it a great choice for a casual dinner, date night, or group dining. The staff was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu, which made the experience even better.

I really wanted to like this place, but honestly, do not be fooled by all the positive reviews you see like I was. It seems like the restaurant spends all its energy on creating an “Instagrammable” environment and giving away freebies to bait people into leaving high ratings. People get so caught up in the decor that they completely overlook the fact that the food is mid to low quality at best.

As someone from India, I expected so much more from a place claiming this cuisine. They spend a lot of time on presentation, but the taste just isn’t there. We had the mixed grill appetizer, and it was a complete let down. It was lathered in so much marinade that it felt like they were trying to hide the fact that it wasn’t even cooked through all the way.

The service was actually pretty good, probably above average, but that doesn’t make up for the lack of value. We knew it would be expensive, but for these prices, the food should be amazing, and it just wasn’t. To rub salt into the wound, they tacked on a mandatory 20% gratuity for a table of only four people. I have no idea why a restaurant thinks they can charge that kind of automatic fee for a small group on top of already being overpriced.

Overall, it felt like an absolute rip-off. They are selling an aesthetic for photos rather than a quality meal. If you want actual good Indian food, there are plenty of other choices out there that prioritize the kitchen over the hype. I definitely won’t be back.

Really enjoyed the experience at Jalwa Indian Bistro, the food genuinely stood out and tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared in a lighter, well-balanced way without feeling greasy or overpowering. Our server Matthew was excellent; he explained the dishes clearly and gave honest suggestions, which made ordering much easier. We tried the vegetarian platter that included paneer tandoor, vada cigar roll, hara bhara kabab, and palak paneer baklava, and each appetizer had its own distinct flavor instead of tasting repetitive like most sampler platters. For the entrée we ordered the Kofta Delight made with jackfruit, and that was the star of the meal; rich, flavorful, and very satisfying. Overall, great service and flavorful food, definitely coming back again.

Jalwa Indian Bistro is a true gem in Raleigh. The staff are incredibly friendly and took the time to explain the delicacies on the menu with genuine passion. The experience started with a unique, aromatic cinnamon-and-smoke table-side vapor that was a delight for the senses.

Starters:
The scallops were fresh, and the Garlic Naan paired with their vibrant, colorful dipping sauces is a must-order.

Mains Entree: The Lamb Shank was incredibly tender (fell right off the bone!), and the Butter Chicken tender morsels was tender.

Dessert: Don’t skip the Mango Lassi Tiramisu, a brilliant, refreshing fusion.
High-quality food with a touch of theatrical flair. We also got complimentary two scoops of ice cream!

We will definitely be back!

We visited Jalwa Indian Bistro for our anniversary and had a great experience overall. The Guava Sunrise mocktail and Pondicherry Passion cocktail were excellent. Vada Cigar Roll and Karampodi Cauliflower were the standout starters—flavorful and worth trying.

The Mushroom Matar Do Piaza was a bit oily with too many peas, and the Kaali Roti wasn’t something I’d recommend, but the Chili Garlic Naan was good. The Mango Lassi Tiramisu was tasty, though more like a mango lassi cheesecake than a traditional tiramisu.

We also received a Celebration Moments sweet platter and a cotton candy treat for our kid, which made the evening special.

A big shoutout to Mathew, our server—attentive, kind, and extremely helpful. Truly one of the best service experiences we’ve had.

Overall, great service, memorable touches, and several dishes we really enjoyed.

Incredible food, friendly staff and nice ambiance! If you want a relaxing evening with some good really Indian food that doesn’t leave you feeling uncomfortable and heavy, this is the place to try! They started with some dry ice in a glass – the fragrant smoke impressed everyone on our table!
We ordered chicken Biriyani, Lal Mirch paneer, Dal Bukhara with alu kulcha and kali roti (First time for us trying kali roti- don’t let its name or color scare you, it was absolutely delish)! Everything was sensational! The servers are amazing and will guide you if you are stuck on decision making! Our server Matthew was outstanding and even brought a very cute single serving of bread pudding for the Birthday boy on table (sorry, didn’t click a pick of the dessert)!

Went for dinner with my wife and the experience was extraordinary. The ambience, service, and food was really amazing. We ordered vada pav cigar rolls and stuffed hara bhara kabab as appetizer and the taste and concept was really good. Dal bukhara was also very tasty. Overall, it was a great experience and worth the price.

We recently visited Jalwa Indian Bistro, and the experience had some real highlights along with a few misses.

We kicked things off with the Jaipur Jalwa, which was bright, refreshing, and full of pomegranate flavor. Our first glass arrived chipped, but the team quickly remade it without any hesitation. The Karampodi Cauliflower came out beautifully plated, and the flavors were perfectly balanced.

For the vegetarian mixed grill, things were a bit uneven. The Harvali Paneer was mild to the point of having almost no flavor, and the Palak Paneer Baklava felt dry and didn’t quite land. On the other hand, the Hara Bara Kabab was excellent, and the way they packed it for us looked great. The Cigar Roll was just okay, but the Croquettes were a standout with their rich, well-blended flavors.

For entrées, the kitchen really delivered. My Laal Mirch Paneer came in a deep, complex gravy built from five different chilies, and it was incredible. The Desi Chicken Curry tasted comforting and soulful, like something you’d get from a home kitchen done perfectly.

We finished with the Deconstructed Shahi Tukda, which hit that sweet spot of being flavorful without being overly sugary. The complimentary charcoal ice cream was interesting, though not as memorable as everything else.

One thing worth noting is that the restaurant automatically adds a 20% gratuity. The staff’s service was strong and they certainly earned it, but it’s something more restaurants are starting to do, and it’s helpful for guests to know ahead of time.

Overall, Jalwa has some dishes that truly shine, especially the entrées, and the service was attentive. A few items could use more consistency, but when they get it right, they really get it right.
