We enjoyed a rare visit to Hollister and visited Cosmos Bar and Grill on recommendation from a family member. The lunch did not disappoint! Cynthia pleasantly greeted us upon entry and accommodated our request to sit outside on the patio. She checked on us frequently and made sure to take our order, replenish our drinks and ensure we liked our meal. We order calamari as an appetizer, steak sandwich and philly sandwich. All the meals were great, I had to take half my sandwich home. The restaurant is situated in the historic downtown, lots of character!

We decided to try this unique restaurant on the recommendation of the hotel staff in this cozy, atmospheric town; it felt straight out of a Lifetime movie. Stepping inside gave an inviting speakeasy vibe, with incredible decor and extremely friendly staff who guided us through the evening’s specials. I opted for the beef stroganoff, while my wife chose the fruit de mer; both dishes arrived piping hot and executed to perfection. The atmosphere here is unbeatable, and if I’m ever back in Hollister, I’ll definitely return. Highly recommend!

This was my first time here, and I was pleasantly surprised all the way around. The inside is beautifully decorated. Our glasses never got completely emptied and the servers checked in regularly to make sure everything was okay. That is impressive today. To top it all off, the food was excellent! I’ll definitely come here again. It’s so nice to see some good, new restaurants coming into town.

Came to visit some friends and chose Cosmos. We started with the calamari, burratta, eggplant caprese and and the sangria. So good! Sangría is a must try. Shared a cup of this delicious white bean and lamb soup with the husband. I believe it was a special soup for the night. Absolutely delicious. My husband ordered the oso busco and it blew him away. Better than any place in the bay area he’s had.
I had the special. The breaded chicken in a marsala sauce with mushrooms was perfectly done. The garlic mashed potatoes and sauteed veggies was so good!
Warning! The desserts are made in house and DELICIOUS!! Everyone tried the tiramasu and husband had the bread pudding. He raved about it.
We will definitely be back and look forward to trying that burger people in town talk about on our next visit for a lunch.
Definitely had leftovers and can’t wait to have it for lunch tomorrow.
Great job chef!

Father’s Day brunch at Cosmos was a delight for me and my family. The staff were courteous and attentive, letting us know when she would be back to take our order. There were several large groups, and the chefs kept up with orders, with the wait staff delivering hot fresh food to the guests. I had the Cosmos Omelet. It was delicious! Our family all had a great meal. Thank you for the fantastic food and service

Came on Monday from Chicago and had the tortellini with shrimp in vodka cream sauce. Came back on Wednesday for the Beet and Spinach salad and Atlantic salmon. Both of these meals were amazing. Definitely recommend for anyone that wants a wonderful, classy restaurant with excellent food. Nice servers too.

This place was strange, a weird mixture of bad service and good food. The front door only opens on one side, and the side that doesn’t open has a lock box thing on it, making it look closed. I tried the door, it was locked, and I assumed I had the wrong entrance. After walking down the side of the building we realized that no, that was the correct entrance. Very unclear.
Once we found our way in, we were seated quickly, but not because the hostess was standing there waiting; she just happened to be walking by at the same time that we walked in. It was only five something, and there were only three other tables , so they were not at all busy. We then sat there for way too long before a waitress finally came over and asked, ” have you been helped yet?”. This was one of the only times where the service seemed normal. She apologized and acted professional. But then, once taking our drink and appetizer order, and then a little later our food order, the waitress was looking outside constantly, her eyes darting around. Not looking at us at all, it was really strange. Like somebody that’s being stalked or worried that something’s about to happen. My guess is she is on drugs.
They bring you the cut up baguette with the olive oil and balsamic vinegar for dipping, which is a wonderful touch, but they bring you this huge thing of oil and vinegar and then the most laughably small amount of bread I’ve ever seen. I thought it was a mistake. When we asked for more bread after it quickly ran out, they brought another basket of bread that was identical (see pic). It took a while to ask for more bread, because our waitress never once checked on us, though she walked past us constantly. Never even looked in our direction.
After we were done with the bread and calamari appetizer she cleared my plate and silverware, but when the main entrees were given to us she did not bring new silverware. I had to ask her. Not a huge deal, but again any server worth their salt is aware of these kind of things on their own.
The last thing I didn’t like about the service, was that when you pay they bring the card reader to your table, do it all there in front of you, hand you the little machine and stand there and watch you while you choose the tip. I don’t like that kind of pressure.
Now for the good. The atmosphere was pretty nice in my opinion, even though I see other reviewers say it was terrible. Open kitchen where you can see the three or four chefs, all dressed professionally. And the food was quite good. The calamari appetizer was great, as were both entrees (the burger, which at $18 is priced pretty well these days and comes with bacon and avocado), and the osso bucco. The lamb was not as delectable as I had hoped, but pretty solid 4 out of 5. No complaints. They had some nice beers on tap too.
The difference in our bill between paying cash or using a card was almost five bucks though, which also bothers me. If you’re running a restaurant that is fairly high-end, you shouldn’t be passing on credit card charges to your customers.
All that being said, I may go back sometime. Like I said the food was good. And the service, though kind of annoying and weird, wasn’t “I’m never coming back” horrible.
