What stood out to us was their commitment to making food from scratch—like cutting their own fries (definitely not a SYSCO mainstream restaurant which nowadays is highly appreciated). The food was good!!. However, I do have a bit of constructive feedback. For instance, the Reuben sandwich had a bit too much sauerkraut, it would have been better with a lighter amount. Also, my husband’s burger was overly sweet due to the sauce; a drizzle would have sufficed, and extra sauce could be served on the side for those who want more. It almost tasted like a dessert!
Overall, we had a fantastic time and would definitely recommend it. Just a few tweaks could make it perfect!
on to the food. i really enjoyed my spaghetti, but the meatballs was complete mush-way too much bread crumbs. the meatballs were generous in size-but the taste was bad. i would have preferred my meal come with one giant meatball and a side salad. it only comes with meatballs-i had to pay extra for the salad. fish sandwich was good-nice size and fries came with it. good fries! philly cheesesteak was generous size. good flavor. chicken bacon ranch wrap was dry- needed more dressing. wait staff was very nice and accommodating.
Let’s talk about the food … absolutely incredible. Every dish is made from scratch with fresh high quality ingredients, and you can truly taste the love and care that goes into every bite. Whether it is the perfectly seasoned proteins, the creative and crave worthy sides, or the house made sauces that bring everything together, every plate is full of flavor. This is not just good food, this is unforgettable food.
The service is outstanding. The staff is friendly, attentive, and genuinely passionate about what they do. You never feel rushed, and their recommendations are always on point.
Santello’s is more than just a restaurant. It is an experience. It is one of those rare places where you can count on consistently excellent food, five star service, and an atmosphere that feels like a little slice of home.
Whether you are a local or just passing through, treat yourself and make a visit. You will be talking about your meal for days. Truly one of the best spots in Washington PA and a must try for anyone who loves food
We’ve seen the change on the sign, and the logo saying “Scratch Kitchen” intrigued us as we’re always on the prowl for good food. As Frankie I, it was a bar that served decent wings, but as Santello’s – with that tagline – it is promising more, right? So, we grabbed two more couples and came out to try it out on a weeknight.
We called for reservations and were told they do not take them, but it should not be a problem. Driving up, the parking lot is full. Oh oh. We notice a sign for Valet Parking but take the chance and find a spot we can squeeze into.
Walking in, the dining room is mostly empty. What? Where is everyone? Come to find out, they have space in the basement and there is a 60 person event down there. The front end manager tells us that since the parking lot is rather small, they arranged for complimentary valet service – nice touch!
So, no problem getting a table for six. We get the food and beer menus. About two dozen beers available in both draft and some in bottles. For those in draft, if you are not familiar with them, they offer two ounce pours gratis in cute little beer steins!
The food menu was the main event for us. Yes, there are bar food items, and yes, they maintained the wings. However the rest of the menu has moved beyond just bar offerings. Pasta, chicken, steak, fish and more are now available as well.
The most unique item we saw was called “Italian sushi.” This is Mozzarella cheese and roasted red pepper strips rolled up in prosciutto in the shape of a log then cut like sushi. What a neat concept. Of course we had to try it and liked it!
We also tried the Reuben, Philly Cheesesteak, wings, and two of their pastas. We liked all of it. The sandwiches were good, the wings came with a choice of sauces and we opted for a dry cajun rub which we thought worked very well. The two pastas were clearly home made. The sauces were very well balanced. Yes, they definitely have the Scratch Made moniker working out. And we will have to come back to try more of their food.
Another thing that impressed us was that we noted that they offer Gluten Free pastas as well as breads and rolls. Again, kudos to them for that !
If there was anything that we would change, it would be the decor. It’s still very much a sports bar / dive bar feel to it. On the other hand, that’s Ok too.
