Loved the outdoor dining. Set in a beautiful woodsy area so was very charming dining. Had pulled pork nachos. Couldnt decide what I wanted to drink but my waitress made a awesome suggestion and it was a great drink.

My husband brought me here and I didn’t know what to get, it all sounded good. So, I got the Cajun Trio…best thing I could have done. It was AMAZING. Flavorful, juicy and just the right amount of heat. The drinks were excellent too. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Small place, huge flavor!

We sat in their dining area on a Friday night during live music. The musicians were awesome, we didn’t eat anything but It was really nice location to unwind after a long day of meetings in a social setting. They had wide variety of mixed cocktails.

Fantastic service– our waitress was super sweet and had a sense of humor.

Had the country fried chicken which was amazing. The portions were big (I couldn’t finish it all but in a good, comfort food way.

Friendly staff, the atmosphere seemed like they were regulars, not tourists which was nice, but the food was less than ok. Sliders were a piece of Meagan some melted cheese on bread. No fries… I didn’t know I wouldn’t get any. I salted some of my mate’s fries he put in my plate. I never use salt. Def go somewhere and pay similar prices.

Been here twice in medium sized groups. Happy Hour specials are great with a wide selection of drinks. Their food is unique in the Mystic area and always leaves me more than satisfied.

Place is quaint. Our overall experience is bleh… We like nice small places as long as they provide a great taste. Drink menu was sub par, looks to me like someone who doesn’t drink made the menu. We had bbq wings, which were waaaay over sauced, like it was just poured over the wings instead of tossed. (Sad part is this was the best of our experience) Alligator bites were alright, nothing to brag about, couldn’t even tell it wasn’t just some fish. Then my fiance got a steak sandwich, which he couldn’t even finish. He said it was too dry and bland. He never complains about his food and always finishes. I got the pulled pork and Mac n cheese, as they were out of catfish. Pork was dry but again over sauced to compensate, it was an overabundance of pork on top of the Mac n cheese. Mac n cheese was also bland. The server/bartender (only one on tonight, as it was slow) was good. She seemed like maybe she was new or maybe she knew the food was sub par. I can’t tell which. Over all I will never return. Enter at your own risk.

We went to the Voodoo Grill in downtown Mystic and over all the experience was less then pleasurable. The Voodoo Grill is designed with New Orleans Mardi Gras flair. I was hoping for a fun atmosphere with flavorful Cajun food. My hopes were short lived. First we were sat down by a drafty back door which left us cold through our entire visit. We were given menus that had black sharpie lines through multiple items. The table behind us were yelling (to the point that I thought that they were making comments to us until I looked at them and realized that they were just drunk and obnoxious), they had a large pile of canned beers stacked into a tower at there table that I kept expecting to topple over. We placed our order chicken fajita wrap, shave steak sandwich, and an A-bomb sandwich. We waited close to 40 minutes for our food. There were not more than 2 other tables waiting for food. The staff didn’t really check on us while we waited. When our food finally arrived it was lukewarm. The chicken wrap was bland and more closely resembled something that I would order in a school cafeteria 13 years ago. The onion rings were doughy and soggy. The shaved steak sandwich was chewy, bland, and charred meat in between 2 slices of Texas toast. The baked beans that we had with the steak sandwich tasted fresh out of a can. The A-bomb sandwich was our last hope for some Cajun flavor it was supposed to be a homemade andouille sausage onion, peppers, and cheese. There was a very mild kick to the sausage but that was were the flavor ended. My sister found a short grey hair in the A-bomb sandwich as she was about to take her last few bites we informed the waitress who politely removed the sandwich from our bill (which is why I gave them 2 stars instead of 1), though she did mention she was confused because none of them have hair upstairs (where the kitchen is) though we saw people with hair in and out of the kitchen. We will not be returning to the Voodoo Grill. I hope that they can find a bit more flavor to spice up their food for the future.

AWFUL Bar Experience

A group of friends and I decided to try out the Voodoo Grill for some drinks after work one night and had a horrible experience. It started out really fun; there was live music and several people hanging out and having a good time. I started the night by going to the bar and ordering a drink from the bartender “Kate.” I gave her my credit card to pay and she asked me if I wanted to keep it open. I wasn’t really planning on buying a lot or starting a tab, but I decided to keep it open (just in case) I wanted to order one more drink later.

We sat down at a table and immediately starting chatting with a few local men. One of the men noticed that our drinks were getting low so he offered to buy us a round. I thought this was nice so I accepted. He bought us several drinks until we were ready to leave. When I went up to the bar to close out my tab it was like $50. I was shocked and asked the bartender why it was so expensive when I only ordered 1 drink the whole night. She gave me a snotty look and replied, “that man over there told me to put the drinks on your tab.” I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT! I had never met that man before in my life and he somehow bought a bunch of drinks and charged them to me. I was very frustrated, but I had been drinking and my judgement was not the best. My friends were already outside and rushing to leave, so I went ahead and just ended up paying the tab, tipping the bartender the standard 20% and headed out. When I told my friends what just happened, they were so angry. There was no way that the bartender should just randomly put drinks on someone’s tab without them knowing. They demanded that we go back so they could tell the bartender to remove the charge.

When we went back to talk to the bartender she refused to remove the charge. She said the fact that I signed the receipt was accepting the bill. I was so angry….not so much about the money, just the whole principle of the matter. It shouldn’t have happened to begin with and there wasn’t any sort of reimbursement, or even an apology for what she did. I even called and spoke to the owner “Wes” a few days later because it was still bothering me. He seemed to agree that the bartender was in the wrong but told me he was busy at that moment. He got my number and promised to call me the next day to sort things out and reimburse me however he could. Needless to say, he just wanted to placate me because nothing ever happened. He never even called me back! My friends & I will NOT be returning to the Voodoo Grill after this incident.

I have to say I heard from a few people to try this place they had good food. I ordered the jambalaya, it was terrible! The sausage was pure fat and it was too spicy. Service was terrible and prices way too high for the quality.
