The fresh lumpia was light and flavorful, wrapped perfectly with crisp vegetables and a savory filling, all brought together by that rich, slightly sweet sauce. It tasted just like the kind you’d get at family gatherings back home.
The spring rolls were golden and perfectly crisp on the outside, with a juicy and well-seasoned filling inside. Each bite had that satisfying crunch that makes you reach for “just one more.”
The highlight for me was the lechon belly; incredibly tender with flavorful, juicy meat and that irresistible crispy skin. It was seasoned so well and cooked to perfection. Absolutely unforgettable.
And of course, we ended with mango float; creamy, sweet, and layered with just the right balance of graham and fresh mango. It was the perfect refreshing dessert to finish the meal.
Beyond the food, the chef was so warm and accommodating, making sure we were comfortable and well taken care of. You could really feel the passion and heart put into every dish.
I miss home, but meals like this make me miss it a little less.
The family who runs this new restaurant were warm, welcoming, and excited to share dishes that are very personal for their family and, by the end of the meal, they made me feel like I was part of their family.
The food was yummy, and the stories behind the dishes elevated the experience to a new level. They pay careful attention not only to the seasoning and spices, but the texture of the dishes as well. Texture is much more important to excellent food than any of us give it credit for and they nailed the complimentary textures in each dish.
While I do think there are a couple of minor tweaks that could make all of the dishes showstoppers, it was a VERY yummy experience none-the-less.
Order from them, you won’t regret it and you will become a part of their family!
The chef and the host were extremely welcoming, kind, friendly, TRUSTWORTHY, and accommodating. Their energy alone is a reason while I’ll be back! They allowed the guests to come in the back to see the kitchen and as a Virgo, I really appreciated the cleanliness!
Filipino food culture is rich and exudes love and union. I highly recommend coming to R E A S T U with family or simply pre-ordering if you want to experience this magical delicious food. I’m beyond thankful for this new addition to my hometown. Rochester needed this !!!!!
Ps
Filipino food should be full of flavor on every bite you take and taste every ingredient it has.
Try them out!
I have been missing the taste of home for 5 years. Coming in, I knew I would enjoy the food, but Reastu exceeded all my expectations! I am normally a picky eater. Having been invited, I have already talked myself into at least trying each food that would be served. What I didn’t expect is that I would love every bite. Although I was very full at the end of the night, I was still craving for more!
Here’s a play-by-play of my meal experience:
Ensalada: When I saw the menu, I was most nervous about this dish. I am not the biggest fan of eggplant, onions or tomatoes. Eggplants are usually too mushy or too hard, but this was not your traditional ensalada. The eggplant was the perfect texture and instead of the usual array of vegetables, the onions and tomatoes were presented as a creamy sauce that was so good it’s addictive!
Bulalo: This dish originated from my hometown, Batangas so I’m glad it was represented in the menu. It was a rainy day so it was a very timely dish. The beef was fall-off-the-bone tender, and the broth brings back memories of typhoon season as a kid when school is canceled and everyone stays home (for Rochesterians, think of snow days).
Lumpia: The party favorite! Need I say more? It’s lumpia goodness, the staple of every Filipino party. What sets it apart from others is that the wrapper was freshly prepped by the chef! The two choices of dips were perfect, too! I personally liked the sweet and spicy dip for lumpia in general. But for those who liked tangy flavors, they also offered spiced suka (vinegar).
Lechon: The star of the show! Roasted pork with crispy skin goodness, contrasted with the tender fat and meat. I can’t rave about this dish enough! It pairs well with both the lechon sauce and spiced suka. And ofc white rice!
Mango Float: Remember when I said I was a picky eater? Surprise, I’m not the biggest fan of mango either! But at this point of the dinner, I fully trust Hazel to deliver. I almost teared up because this definitely tastes like the one my sister used to make!
My new go-to! Keep up the great work, Reastu Family!
