I had an amazing experience here. The food is amazing I had butter chicken, rice, and buttered naan which was absolutely delicious. The servings were generous and the atmosphere was great! I Went here solo but I had a peaceful experience. The waiters are kind and thoughtful and I am truly happy to support a local business! This was the first time I was visiting an Indian restaurant and I had a blast.

Had a family lunch function here for 42 people. We liaised with Bheki to arrange everything prior to the event. On the day everything was perfect – exactly as promised. I tried Thava for the first time last night and it was such an enjoyable experience! From the moment I called to make an enquiry, the lady who answered was so sweet and friendly – it honestly made me even more excited to visit. Finding parking was easy, which is always a plus, and the restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful. The decor gives off a warm and welcoming vibe, and it was quite full when we arrived, which already said a lot about how popular it is.
We started off with the mixed grill platter, which was delicious and full of flavour. While waiting, we were served a complimentary papri chaat – a lovely surprise and a great start to the meal. For mains, we ordered a chicken curry and a lamb curry. Both dishes were rich, tasty, and full of authentic flavour.
That said, even the “mild” option was quite spicy for me – but I’ll admit I don’t handle heat very well! Despite that, I really enjoyed the food.

Excellently looked after by Musa in Thava Indian Restaurant.
Food was delicious with a wide variety of Indian cuisine. They catered to everyone’s request for spice requirements, even replacing a dish that was too spicy for one of our guests with the same dish, but toned down.
Restaurant was spacious and felt authentic.
Plenty of off-street parking with their own security guard.
Definitely worth a visit, and a return-trip.

Thava Norwood catered for a private function at my home and the service was nothing short of sensational! I liaised with Bheki from the beginning and he gave me excellent advice on the type of menu that would be appropriate for the number of guests expected. The food was amazing and was more than enough for everyone. Bheki and his assistant arrived at the agreed time and set up the food station. He returned the following day to collect the food warmers. From start to end Bheki was professional and a pleasure to deal with. I highly recommend using Thava Norwood for catering for your private functions! Definitely money well spent!

Best Indian food in Jhb. Starters are great and plenty of mains to choose from. Go there often for curry any never disappointed. Lunch time is very quiet so not a lot of atmosphere, but good for a quiet get together.

Frequently visit The Thava in Norwood. Generally very good service, good quality food. Flavourful, authentically Indian cuisine. Spice level is not always consistent – I feel that portion sizes could be bigger for the cost of the meal.
