Tucked away in the neighborhood for decades, Galway House is the kind of spot locals swear by. The food? Always flavorful. The drinks? On point. And the portions? Generous enough to satisfy any appetite. Best part prices that respect your wallet without skimping on quality. If you haven’t been, you’re missing out on one of the area’s best-kept secrets.
Unremarkable customer service experience in alignment with an old school pub. Come as you are, take a seat, and we’ll get to you kind of establishment.
The weathered decor is charming, and the atmosphere is nostalgic- I felt comfortable.
THE FOOD:
The fried seafood platter was very good. The seafood tasted fresh, and the batter perfectly adhered giving the ideal non-greasy coating. I particularly liked the fact that the seasoning accentuated the natural flavors of the seafood. The clam bellies and scallops were my standout bites.
The side green beans tasted invisible because the only adornment was steam. The onion rings were cooked to perfection-light and crunchy batter encasing a succulent onion.
THE VALUE:
Budget friendly price point for fresh well prepared seafood.
We were greeted by a few servers almost immediately — it felt good to know you were recognized. We grabbed ourselves a booth, ordered a few pints and some wine, and then put in our food order.
We had the seafood platter — broiled (key, not fried). Wow — it had about 8 scallops, shrimp, and a nice piece of fish — all tasty. We also ordered the steak tips — they were great. I think they use the same marinade I make. Steamed broccoli, summer squash, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, and fries rounded out the sides.
Oh, get this — for an extra $2, you can add the clam chowder when you order a main, so we definitely opted for that.
All in all, it was a good experience, and I would definitely go back. Saluti
Also the posters are really fun. They have one that looks like a diagram from an ENT’s office but the words are the lyrics to ‘Comfortably Numb’
The escarole was definitely the highlight (not bad for three bucks!) and my cheeseburger was definitely above average. The steak fries were under seasoned, but nothing a personal application of salt and pepper couldn’t fix.
To be clear, this bar is not promising anything it can’t deliver. I’m confused why it’s an Irish pub when the entire menu seems clearly Italian/American. Pasta, steak, and seafood (broiled or fried). It was definitely well attended the Friday lunch I came in, and the staff was friendly and cheerful, if a bit swamped.
If you are in the mood for above average American bar-food fare it’s definitely a strong option. I doubt its menu has changed in decades, but I think for a certain clientele that’s probably appreciated.
