Ocean Zen is truly a gem. Chef Johnson brings creativity and care to every dish and it shows from the moment the food arrives at the table. The presentation is beautiful!
The Salmon Ocean Zen bento box was flavorful and perfectly balanced, and the sashimi was so fresh it just melted in my mouth. On top of that, Chef Johnson himself came by to say hi and check on us, which made the whole experience feel even more welcoming.

Over 15 years ago, our family of brothers decided we wanted to open a restaurant different than anything else in Springfield. Chef Johnson Tan was trained in fine Asian cooking at a young age along with enhancing his skills in French cuisine. Fast forward, Ocean Zen was conceived.

I’ve traveled the world, and this is the best lamb I’ve ever had. Tuna appetizer and the blueberry salmon were also fantastic. Great food. Great drinks. Great service. You just can’t go wrong here.

I was invited by the Machine Gun Symphony frontman, and 104.7 The Cave Classic Rock DJ Jay Stevens and his equally awesome Lady Jordan Hughes for dinner at this great establishment. Being a former L.A. aficionado of Sushi through my late wife Tamara Fox and the 80’s heavy metal recording artist of WASP, Steeler, SIN and more, I’ve always been a fan of learning about new Sushi restaurants. I’ve been meaning to check Ocean Zen out. Both my curiosity and appetite were sated having dinner here. It’s so great to be able to enjoy my favorites that I couldn’t find living in Willow Springs since 2021. As a new resident of Springfield, I look forward to returning to Ocean Zen again soon. Thanks for such a great experience all around this one was on me for Jay and Jordan.

This place is AWESOME!!!! Would give it seven stars if possible. Amazing food and service. For once I was pleasantly surprised when I got the bill. Will definitely be back again. Our new favorite place to eat in Springfield…actually our favorite place to eat anywhere!!

I was genuinely delighted with each bite of every innovative dish served. The appetizer sampler platter was phenomenal. The filet mignon and lobster was perfectly presented with a bed of potatoes and trumpet mushrooms, complemented by various other wonderful flavors. The explosion of flavors was highly satisfying and skillfully combined. The chocolate layer cake for dessert was a resounding success. This was my first experience at this restaurant, and I must admit that I have been missing out. I will definitely return and highly recommend this exceptional establishment.

We went on Valentine’s day. It was busy but our waitress was still good. The food and atmosphere was AMAZING. They also had a fun photo booth you could print pics out for free.

We went here for our anniversary dinner. I’d say overall, I was underwhelmed by the overall experience considering this is a “nicer” restaurant. It was not busy when we went. We were seated promptly. Service was rather slow. Took 10+ minutes to get our drink order after quite a while to give our order. We had to send the Old Fashioned back as it was watered down and full of ice. The food was good, but I thought for the price we were paying, we could get a better experience elsewhere. The aesthetics of the restaurant were very nice. The presentation of the food was nice. I did enjoy the roll we ordered, although it did taste of stale oil. Recommend changing out the oil regularly. The red snapper dish I thought lacked flavor. $16 for a small glass of basic wine was pricey. My husband thought his food was tasty. My husband said he’d go back. For what we spent, I’d rather go somewhere else.

We had a great night at Ocean Zen. The food was fantastic, the service was great and the atmosphere was amazing! The flavors of the dishes were had weren’t flavors you taste in Springfield, Missouri often. The uniqueness of the flavors coupled with the quality of ingredients was unmatched.
