This restaurant is one star sad tale of woe. But let me start from the beginning. Occasionally my wife will pick a city about one or two hours drive our home to take a leisurely drive to a restaurant she will pick. Sort of a gastronomic adventure. She usually looks at the google reviews then the menu. In this case she for some reason neglected to look at the reviews and instead went to the menu. It had smelt which she likes, so we went there. The drive was nice as it was great September day.
Our first inclination of undesirability was that it was across from a gravel and concrete recycling place. Outside it looked ok, but I asked her to check the reviews again. She said she forgot and we looked and it only had 4.3 stars. We have learned that going to a restaurant with less than 4.6 stars is sometimes gastronomic roulette.
Nevertheless, we decided to soldier on.
We were greeted by doors with dirty glass.
We were told to sit anywhere so we took a booth away from the bar area. We next heard a loud scream of “go packers” from a person at the bar that continued yelling in what appeared to be a drunken state. My wife ordered smelt and French onion soup. I ordered the steak, a salad and what they had listed as a loaded baked potato that came with scallions cheese and bacon. My wife received her soup and at the bottom was a plastic lid of the type you receive condiments in. The waitress replaced it with another bowl that seemed ok. Her smelt seemed sort of average. She had coffee in a sad water (and maybe something gruesome) slobbered on the side.
We ordered ann onion blossom that was ok.
My salad was a bit of iceberg lettuce and some shredded cheese.
The baked potato was ok but there were none of the advertised scallions. The waitress forgot silverware so we just grabbed it from another table. When we opened the napkin the silverware had water spots and possibly some remnants of past meals.
The steak was cooked correctly but the meat was tough with lots of grizzle.
With all that a one star review is in order although we left the waitress a 30% tip for good service.

Their food is amazing When They GET IT RIGHT!!! ….They NEVER get take out orders Right! Never!! We stopped ordering from here for a year to let the staff reset, so hopefully they could get an order right… NOPE!! We ordered my 2nd favorite pizza on the planet this time, their Buffalo Chicken…. what did we get, No Blue Cheese! Blue Cheese is what Makes The Whole Flavor Combination Work!!! Almost No Sauce! AAAnd it was the AWEFUL Square Cut when the special instructions clearly stated “Please cut pizzas like a normal pizza, triangle cut”! Upon arrival we weren’t greeted with a smile and a hello, scowls all around! Five people scowled at me before the bartender Finally asked if I was picking up an order. As Usual, No One knew where the order was, where it might be, where it went, if it was done, etc., etc.. it took 10 minutes to find the pizzas that were supposed to be done and ready to go according to the bartender. Last time we ordered, they gave our pizza to the wrong person and we had to wait for them to be re-made!! AAAND They STILL CUT THEM WRONG!!! Who cuts a round pizza in Suares?!!!? It leaves little goofy pieces of just crust and pieces with no crust at all… 2nd to last time we ordered they mixed up toppings between our 2 pizzas, left some toppings out completely, and totally forgot our sides, AAAnd they cut one pizza triangle, the other one square! To top it all off they put a pepper stem cap on the pizza with banana peppers(an honest mistake if you’re rushing, but this was a WHOLE Cap!!) Slow Down!! 2 stars because the food is SOOOO Good When It’s RIGHT, 1 star service for the scowls and lack of greeting, 1 star atmosphere because Everything is ALWAYS NASTY DIRTY!! There’s a glob of ketchup or BBQ sauce on the top door frame, right center, going into the kitchen from the take out counter that’s been there For OVER A YEAR!!! Last 3 visits we couldn’t wonder too far from a restroom, this visit TBD… Clean Up the NASTY, Slow Down to get it right the first time, and Appreciate the Customers paying employees wages!!! Back in 2005 the Kalamazoo and Otsego locations were ON POINT with ALL these things!!

Great food and the service was excellent. Onion rings are huge and flavorful, also the mushrooms were excellent. I ordered the deputy doggs. The best hot dogs I’ve ever had. We’re from fort wayne but I would definitely go in there again just for the dogs alone. Onion rings the size of Dunkin donuts cooked crispy and delicious.

Paid $2 extra for sauces I didn’t get.
A server was packaging up leftover food another server brought from the dining area (me thinking they were boxing it up for a customer) with her bare hands, but instead says “I’ll eat this later.”
Not returning.

Ordered from here recently for the first time and have had it several times since. The southwest quesadilla is a magical creation that has become my new favorite food. It’s a great amount of food for me because I can turn it into 2 meals at work or at home. I’m having a hard time ordering anything else because it’s so good! But i do want to try so many other excellent menu options they offer.

The burgers were just a little dry and over cooked. If I was given an option on how I would have liked mine cooked, I would have had it a little more on the medium rare side. I was also a little disappointed in the portion size of the pepper jack cheese bites. For the price, I got about half as much as I expected. Otherwise, the server was attentive, and everything else was good.

The Mediterranean grinder had a chicken bone in it since the chicken was pulled which was odd (the menu description said chicken and I feel like grilled but in any event if you pulled it pick the bone out) the tomatoes were odd as well like canned chunks of stewed (?), menu description just said tomatoes and my assumption was fresh sliced so it was just a different thing for my brain. And it comes open face kinda and impossible to eat by picking it up really. That’s the only reason why I found the bone because I needed to mess with the sandwich in order to try to pick it up. The sandwich was barely lukewarm and was missing the mayonnaise that it said said would be on it. Which was fine. I asked for Italian dressing. I took one bite and I couldn’t eat anymore because it was so unappetizing. Normally for the money I spend on food I would say you know I’m just not happy with this but it was late at night we were in Battle Creek and needed to get back 45 minutes to home. The french fries that were only $1 extra to add to the grinder were very good so I just had those and they give you a ton of them. I typically only drink water with my meals and they have very good filtered water. My husband had one of their pizzas maybe the meat lovers and he really enjoyed it. We brought home the extra and he ate on it for two more days! That was a win. In the end my husband was happy w his meal oh and he had some hot wings that were on special and he liked those and I had one as well. Wings were cooked just right and were not fatty.
I cannot express how much that grinder turned me off – husband put it into perspective” what do you expect when you order a Mediterranean grinder from a bar”. He’s right lol. In my mind I’m thinking the menu said chicken, tomatoes, feta, cheese, mayonnaise. That sounds amazing!!!! It wasn’t. I myself won’t go back. Do I want to say bad things no but be mindful what you order there.
** The table to my right just kiddy corner had a bad experience and I heard apologizing and excuses honestly and the server said “we don’t get many out of towners”. As we are out of towners and I don’t like my food. Lol

Dirty ! Floors were gross, dead fly’s in the dusty windows, had to keep waving flys that were still alive away from our food, was extremely hot inside…….BUT the food was delicious!! I had a chicken tenders basket, my daughter had one of the chicken wraps and we also shared some fried mushrooms. They were excellent. Everything was hot and fresh. A little pricey. Paid $52 and that included a tip.

My husband and I were told to seat ourselves, which we did. There were other people in the section we were in and, the waitress made eye contact with me but, never came over to us. We sat there for 25 minutes, we still were not greeted or given menus. Go to Finley’s instead. Better food and amazing service!
