This was my favorite place for Mexican food for years . Not so much anymore. We ordered 1 dinner of Chili rellinos. to share and two tacos, two Margareta. Just under 80 dollars. Chill Relino’s tastes like they were cooked in cold oil. Pork tacos didn’t have much of a flavor. Margaritas was watered down. Never going back.

My first impression was “wow, the decor is super nice” and it is a cozy place. I judge my Mexican restaurants on a few things. First their chips and salsa. I’m disappointed in the chips. They are super hard and do taste store bought. I hope that isn’t the case but I’m not in love with them at all. The salsa is super yummy though I must add. I ordered steak tacos. They came out just as I ordered. I hate cilantro. They accommodated my request which is another thing I compare restaurants with. Soap is not my favorite flavor and that’s what cilantro tastes like to me. Third and final “yum” factor is the guacamole. I should say this is the most important! Theirs was perfect. If they would only had better chips for my meal, I would have given 5 stars!

I have been going to the Pepe‘s in Griffith, Indiana for many years never have I paid $80 for two people at Pepe‘s. Their prices are very ridiculous. I get a veggie quesadilla for $22.99. they said everything on the menu went up 20% and the new menus haven’t came out yet but they did not let us know that the prices on the menus weren’t not correct until we ate and we questioned the prices on the receipts. They said it is a note about the prices when you walk in restaurant.

My experience at Pepe’s Mexican Restaurant was absolutely wonderful. I just moved here from Michigan, and haven’t been able to find a decent Mexican restaurant until now. Living in Michigan, I tried every Mexican place I could and judged them by the taste of their food, sauce, Margaritas, service, and even the decor! This place was clean, the atmosphere was relaxed, the lighting is perfect, the decor was beautiful, along with the Mural that was painted across the back wall. They also have a jukebox! Shout out to our waiter, Santino! He was kind, polite, funny, and extremely welcoming and helpful. He definitely went above and beyond and for my first time there, it was much appreciated! I have been to Mexican restaurants all over Michigan, and a few here in Indiana…not ONE compares to the flavor of the meat, beans, rice, and vegetables that they serve here. The salsa and the Verde that they serve is also flavorful, and by far the best I’ve had in any restaurant. The Margaritas that Santino prepared were also some of the best I’ve ever had. Sometimes I have to choke drinks down because they don’t taste right. Not here! 10/10 would absolutely recommend! ☺️

Worst waitress ever! Middle age latina. Ignored our table for 2 hours after putting the food down. Never checked on our table once! No drink refills . No chips. No is everything ok. She hid from us for 2 hours.
Had to stand up and demand the check. The staff at the counter didn’t do anything about it. You ruined our party. Food silucked. TERRIBLE SERVICE!

Bridge The Gap
I hadn’t been to Pepe’s since the early 2000s. My fav order was always the pork nachos. While these were ok, they didnt compare to my memory of them. The pork didnt have a lot of flavor.
My daughter ordered a steak quesadilla…now that was delicious. It came with pico de gallo and she ordered a small queso to drizzle on it.
They bring you a basket of chips with thee smallest bowl of salsa I have ever seen. I asked for a second one just so that both of us could eat some.
If you pay using anything but cash, its an additional 3.9% charge. All tabs include a 15% gratuity even for a party of 1. Adding sour cream or peppers or any condiments is extra.
They do not wish to give to go drinks. I can drink as many as I want sitting but asking for a cup to take what you didnt finish is not expected. Guess I’ve lived outside of the Region too long…

We had great bar service for 2 on a Taco Tuesday evening. We’ve been here several times before and the last time we were there, a kitchen staff was in the restroom with me and didn’t wash their hands. Hadn’t been there for at least a year and REAALLLY REALLY wanted a good Pepe’s dinner! Gave it another chance and thought I went to Mexico instead… if you can’t flush the tp or watch staff wash their hands, um… won’t be back.

Wish I could give zero stars but that’s not an option. I don’t live in the area anymore so I get carry-out to take home whenever I visit. The past 3 times have been awful. The prices went up by at least 25% in the past year and a half and the service and quality of food has gone in the toilet. Last time I visited, I paid $35 for 2 Chile con Queso appetizers and all the chips they gave me were completely stale. The previous time I ordered Enchiladas Cozumel with extra red sauce. Not only did I not get extra red sauce, there was NO red sauce. The enchiladas were dry and inedible. $20 in the trash. The time before that I went in and ordered a drink while I ordered my carry-out. My food was ready before my drink was made. I love Pepe’s food, but I am am absolutely fed up with the quality of food I receive for the price I pay at the Highland location and I will no longer be returning.

On Mondays and Wednesdays, margaritas are $5, and beef, chicken, and pork tacos are $1.50 each for carry-out only. Steak tacos are 5 for $20. The bartender is really nice, and the chicken and steak tacos are amazing!

I recently went to Pepe’s Mexican restaurant and it was great! The atmosphere was welcoming, and the food was amazing. I tried their fiesta combination plate, and it was packed with delicious flavors. The staff was friendly and made sure I had everything I needed. Overall, I highly recommend this place if you’re looking for tasty Mexican food and good service. I’ll definitely be back for more!
