We were greeted and seated, with a choice of our preference for inside or outside accommodated. (Step-Mom said inside. ) The entire restaurant is beautiful, from the art deco statues everywhere to the Tiffany lamps lining the ceiling to the incredible palate of colors covering everything.
For starters, we had the Off the Grill appetizer, and it was fantastic. The mash and gravy wanted to be amazing and would be with a touch more seasoning. The pasta and neat balls was a hit with my Dad, who’s a bit of a pasta connoisseur. The California burger was decent, but brought down by a substandard bun. Sweet potato wedges were BANGING!
Dessert was a sharing fest of chocolate peanut butter torte and a banana cake with blueberry compote, mango coulis, and vanilla cashew cream. Both were moist, not too sweet, and delicious.
Slightly pricey for the portions, but we’d return for special occasions.
As a group of 4, we went here for dinner around 8pm and to our surprise several dishes were unavailable and we only came to know that a good 10-15 minutes after ordering. The service is slow, but friendly.
We tried the following:
1. Morockin Grill : Mushrooms were well charred, but not burnt, nicely flavoured, but retained the taste of mushrooms, had crunchy/flaky ends, but soft stems—expertly made, in total!
2. Deluxe burger : Has some well-fried fillings, took a bite, it was good, nothing new/special.
3. Mash-n-gravy : Boiled mashed potatoes with some greens and carrots in a brown slightly-too-salty gravy. I couldn’t make out what the gravy was made of, probably caramelized onions.
On top of the mash, there was a fried square of tempeh, which was okayish. Overall, the dish is very heavy/filling.
4. Lentil salad : I didn’t have much expectations for this one, but this turned out to be the best. The primary ingredient lentils and the additional tempe were cooked to give a very tender and soft bite. The tempe (in triangles) in particular was very tasty and impressive!
Further, the dish had some seeds, avocado slices, cabbage slices, some leaves etc. which are usual for a salad I suppose
5. Chocolate Peanut Butter Torte : My friends appreciated it well for it’s cream, coconut-y bottom, and rasberry coulis (which just tasted as some fruity jam to me). I couldn’t enjoy it much, I probably had enough sugar for the day already.
It costed ~$120 + tips, prices are slightly on the higher side.
The best vegan food I have tasted! Presentation was superb. Very friendly staff. Haydee served us with a smile : )
