Lelli’s was established by Nerio and Irene Lelli in 1939 and has been serving authentic Northern Italian cuisine, made with only the finest ingredients ever since. Lelli’s first location, situated on Woodward and W Grand Blvd., in a converted house, quickly became a Detroit favorite. The interior consisted of intimate lighting and private alcoves which offered guests a dining experience unlike any other. Our passion is quality; and when great, authentic Italian food is paired with excellent, heart-felt personal service, lasting memories are inevitable.
This long-running, classic white-tablecloth steakhouse also offers some Northern Italian menu items.

Do NOT miss out on the beef tips on the appetizer menu! One of the very best items on the menu!
Don’t miss out of a truly phenomenal dinner.
This was meant to be a rare, kid-free date night — something we genuinely looked forward to. Instead, we spent more than three hours in the restaurant, much of it waiting with little communication and no meaningful updates.
At around $90 per entrée, we expected a level of service that matched the price point. Delays can happen — but what separates a great restaurant from a poorly managed one is how they respond. In this case, the only accommodation offered was a $10 credit. That gesture felt dismissive and wholly inadequate given the circumstances.
We have enjoyed this restaurant in the past, which makes this experience even more disappointing. A high-end steakhouse should deliver both quality food and competent service. Tonight delivered neither the experience nor the accountability that justifies its pricing.
We sat down at 7, our server came to our table about 25 minutes after we sat down. Our first round of cocktails arrived just before 8pm. When the drinks arrived We ordered appetizers and were told the kitchen was very busy so things were going to take a bit more time than usual. Which was totally fine (we were a group of 10 so it was going to take a long time no matter what!)
What was bothersome was that unless our server was actively bringing something to table they did not check on us, at all. We had to flag down other servers to order drinks after the first round. If we are waiting a long time for food you can always sell us more drinks right? I guess not…
A manager noticed we were getting restless and came over to try and get things back on track, she gave us a round of shots which was nice! Overall it felt like our server may have been upset that they got our table.
When the appetizers arrived they were FANTASTIC! The steak points and oysters were so good!
We put our dinner orders in and got our food around 9:30. The steaks and pasta were amazing!
A few members of our party said the restrooms leave a lot to be desired, I did not go into one personally.
I think overall for what we paid to eat and the time it took (over 3 hours) I don’t feel the experience was worth it. We knew going in it was a pricey restaurant, that is totally fine. When you pay those prices you expect more from a service standpoint that just wasn’t there.
I want to believe that it was just an off night, because again the food was amazing.
And shoutout to the water guys, they were on top of it! Never needed to ask for water.
The $30 (6 shells) oyster Rockefeller takes gold medal for the worst that we have ever been served. Pretty sure they used the cream spinach that was served with every plate that night as well as the bread crumbs from the veal plates. Not even sure if real oysters were used! Watery, chewy bits with a fishy metallic flavor. GROSS!
At 7:00 PM — prime dinner hour — the waiter returns, after a long wait and announced that they were out of lasagne. Lasagne. At an Italian restaurant!! That’s like a Mexican restaurant running out of tamales! An embarrassing ploy to make you order something more expensive.
The veal ordered was sliced so thin it could have qualified as deli meat, yet somehow managed to be chewy. A culinary paradox.
I have had better at weddings.
The under scaled tenderloin was good. The mushroom gravy covering it was buffet quality. And the mushed potatoes were professionally whipped according to the directions on the box. The green beans were large, fresh and perfectly steamed.
All the prices on the Valentine menu were higher than what was on their website. The menus also had the weight of the meat wrong, typos as the waiter told.
What carried us through laughing in amazement of the wedding buffet were the perfectly crafted martinis! But the last laugh we had was seeing an extra $1 charge because one of martinis was ordered slightly dirty. Something you wouldn’t experience at an Italian wedding dinner.
