We had the spicy shrimp, spinach dip, fried zucchini, a burger and the steak sandwich.
We had a woman server but I didn’t catch her name. Another server came out to chat with us, Todd, and he was amazing!
Its Valentines Day. I have a baby sitter, a reservation that was created more than a month prior, should be a good date night with the wife.
We got there about half an hour early, went to the bar to grab a drink, but the open seats were not next to each other, and even when people clearly wanted to sit, they didnt try to arrange the customers in a way to allow more people to enjoy the bar on an extremely busy night, we werent the only ones that tried to go to the bar to wait for their table, missed opportunity for RC and us. Whatever, it isnt a big deal, but apparently foreshadowing. We get our table on time, but they put us in the section where they were putting the people that brought their kids. I guess I understand that someone had to sit there, but its a bit disappointing to leave my kids for the first time in months to be surrounded by kids again. Ill get over this, the kids were well behaved and the people were nice. But out of the whole restaurant, we drew the short straw. We order our first round of drinks. Things are going well, we order our food, and are having an overall good time. The server constantly apologizes for all of the delays, though I dont really care at this point, as I am getting a nice date with my wife away from the kids. They deliver the food, which looked great, however, when I cut into my steak, ordered medium well (yes, I was expecting anything from medium to well) was leather on the outside and raw on the inside. The server offers to have them throw it back on to get it up to snuff, but I find that unacceptable for a $90 steak, he agrees when he sees how cooked the outside already is and gets a new one going for me. The wifes food came out perfectly, and she had a great dinner while I ate some lobster mac and cheese and waited for my steak, still no big deal, I have time and am excited for a good steak. This is when the table behind us gets a loud explanation of how something (I wasnt paying a ton of attention to the beginning of the conversation) was due to Jim Crow laws, and she finishes her history lesson with how it still affects certain people today. Cool, fine dining, hundreds of dollars, and Jim Crow from the staff. On Valentines Day. But, its ok, the steak is still coming. This one is actually burned on the outside, but shockingly, raw on the inside. The server doesnt wait for my opinion, he sees it and says that is unacceptable again, and asks to have them try again, at this point I am ready to call it, as it is clear, that this isnt the night I am going to get a nice fine dining experience out with my wife. I talk to the manager, he is understanding and down right friendly, but mentions that had too many reservations, no offense, that is their fault. The server then apologizes again and says the same thing, they are too busy to deliver a good, fine dining experience. Again, I would have rather they not had any further reservations and a sign on the door saying they are fully booked, than waste my time and money here, and I feel like they should have been able to properly assess how many people they can serve in a night even if meant that I didnt get a reservation there. They couldnt. They comped my steak (if comp can be the right word…), my wifes dinner, and a desert, which was very nice. Both our server and the manager were very nice, I left a tip hopefully big enough to cover what it would have been the bill, as the server and wait staff were doing their best to make it a good experience. But even after all of that, I paid over $200 to have a pretty poor experience and leave hungry. I did get to learn about how Jim Crow impacted modern day tipping in the US though, so I guess there is always a silver lining.
Very friendly hosts, absolutely delicious stake, rich vine selection.
We loved every bite, every moment
