Cannot recommend this restaurant enough. It’s tucked away in an alley well away from the touristic historical part of Malaga. We went at a quiet time just after 1pm but it already had quite a few locals there going for the oysters, tiger prawns etc. We picked from the fish menu with a bit of help from our waiter and were not disappointed, the grilled Octopus especially nice along with baked cod and sprats as we call them. Accompanied by a tomato salad in olive oil and all washed down with a nice Crianza. The deserts too were very good and price wise not too bad considering the quality. Would definitely return to this restaurant if we visit Malaga again.

The best seafood we have ever eaten! The restaurant is full of locals, this also proves its uniqueness. Everything there was just great, really. Amazing staff – even they dont speak english, it is not a problem. Highly recommended!

It used to be a simple restaurant 20 years back with very good food and friendly people.
Now it‘s an amazing restaurant with amazing food and same people who are still very Kind and friendly whom I saw 20 years back.
If you are in Malaga you should go there to eat.
It‘s a but hidden, Busses going to Carlos Haya stops near the restaurant.

One of our best experience in Spain. Hidden gem outside of touristic area, full of local people. Very friendly welcome by one of the owners, and we got extremely fresh fish: shrimps, tuna and squids. Dessert and top white wine completed the experience.
I would go there again and again. Very worth to walk 15-20’ in a residential area outside of the city center (well served by bus though). Thanks a lot for having us there!!

Last week Wednesday, my partner Viola and I went to La Cantina. It’s situated slightly out of Malaga centre in an area called Las Chapas. After walking through the local neighborhood, which was very desolate during siesta, we arrived just a little past 15:00. Our table wasn’t ready but we were late as well. No problem – we were offered a cold drafted beer and could wait outside in the alley. After acclimatizing from our walk, Pepe called us in. The menu was an oral account of what wasn’t and what was still available today. No print. Bring your Spanish, I would say.
It’s a bit out of the way for the normal tourist but for someone who loves seafood, a good ambience, and attentive service it is definitely a place to go. A fun and worthwhile experience! Moreover, Christof, the cook came around to ask how everything was. An important notice: Christof and his daughter make an excellent craft beer called ‘Carl & Daniel’s (see photo), which reminds me much of a good Belgian geuze – with lovely notes of citrus, ginger, and gin. Perfect with a set of gambas a la plancha.
If you are in Malaga, go there! The cheesecake for desert is a tip.
Muchas gracias Christof, Pepe, and La Cantina, x

Excellent food and service! We got the carabineros, scallops, Russian salad,
Oysters, mussels, and cheesecake – ate so fast we forgot to take photos. Definitely would have wanted to come back if we had time. Prices were all very reasonable

The food was delicious and the service warm hearted. When we arrived in the neighborhood in the early afternoon we would have never thought that we would enter a busy family restaurant!
It was lovely to be the only tourists amongst locals. A wonderful atmosphere.
A true find with excellent sea food.
In the end we were gifted their own brewed beer for tasting.
