How did I not know about this place sooner! Seriously, I think people keep it secret. Well, I’m not! The tacos are small, they are street tacos but don’t be fooled…they a filled to the brim. The fish tacos are delicious, I’m a huge fan of the carnitas tacos that are bursting with flavor. We enjoy ordering chips and beans to start and don’t forget to try the roasted Jalapeños. So much food and for great prices! Go, just go! There is seating inside and out. Nothing fancy but the service is top notch and the food is great.

Taco Taco Poway – A Hidden Gem for Mexican Street-Style Eats
Tucked away near Walmart and right next to the DMV, Taco Taco Poway is a local hidden gem that delivers quick, affordable Mexican-style street food. Though the interior is modest and a bit cramped, this casual spot draws regulars with its budget-friendly menu, unique taco options, and laid-back vibe.

The Food
Taco Taco offers a solid variety of Mexican staples, from tacos and burritos to appetizers and combo plates. I sampled a few of their most talked-about tacos:
$0.99 Fish Taco – One of their best-known deals. It comes with shredded cabbage and a small piece of fried fish. While it’s a great value, the portion is understandably small and the flavor is basic.
Pulled Pork Taco – The standout of the meal. The pulled pork is crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and pairs perfectly with their tangy BBQ sauce. Highly recommended.
Octopus Taco – A specialty item. The octopus is tender, but lacks freshness, which slightly detracted from the overall experience.
Surf ‘N’ Turf Taco – Topped with scallops and chopped beef. While the scallops were decent, the beef was underwhelming, lacking both flavor and texture.
Overall, the taco quality varies depending on the protein, but there are some real gems to be found—especially the pulled pork.

Atmosphere & Service
The restaurant itself is small with limited indoor seating, which can feel a little crowded during busy hours. There’s self-serve water, and staff interaction is minimal. The ambiance is casual and no-frills, but there are some nice touches, like a bar shelf decorated with small, colorful Mexican crafts that add cultural charm.

Pet-Friendly & Parking
Outdoor tables are available, making this a dog-friendly spot for those who want to dine with their pets. The restaurant is located in a large shopping plaza with plenty of parking, so finding a spot is rarely an issue.

✅ Final Thoughts
Taco Taco Poway may not look like much from the outside, but it offers affordable, fast, and sometimes unexpectedly delicious tacos in a convenient location. The pulled pork taco alone is worth the visit. While not every item hits the mark, the overall experience is solid for a quick bite or casual lunch—especially if you’re in the area for errands or a DMV appointment.

Absolutely killer deal for a burrito. Cali deluxe is humongous. Felt like it was easily a 2-3lb burrito and bigger than my head. And wrapped in a quesadilla?!?! Absolutely blew my mind. Definitely coming back here. This would go so well with the Vallarta’s orange sauce.

Taco Taco has become my go to place for authentic baja-style fish tacos. I first started eating fish tacos from a street vendor in San Felipe, Mexico in the early 80’s during an R&R from the oilfields of Alaska. There is an on-going battle over whether they started there, or in Ensenada; but, I don’t really care where they started, I only care about where I can get them today! These fish tacos are simple by design, just squirt the lime and add some salt and chase it with a corona with a lime . . . Muey Bueno! And, you won’t beat the price anywhere. Beyond the fish tacos, my families favorites are the carne asada fried rice, and oddly, their Cubano sandwiches are better than the ones from Havana Grill in Claremont Mesa. The service is fast, the servers are super nice. It’s a great place to go and it won’t cost you a leg either. You can’t go wrong. Writing this review has made me hungry – I’m heading over there right now – see ya’ there!

Good quality of Mexican food not an overwhelming Mexican spice, their soft tacos is has the textured flour, I ordered bean and cheese burritos just a hint of cheese top it off with pico de gallo a good compliment with a slight smoke of flavor on my beans and cheese top, price wise inexpensive to the budget. This location is close to DMV California a hidden Mexican place restaurant must go and taste the difference by the way the deep fried jalapeno well excecuted to the bite

There is so much to say about this amazing gem of a place. It’s very unassuming, but the food here hits the spot. Seriously, we have gone here once a week since we decided to try Taco Taco. We can’t seem to get past the fish tacos and the fish and fries. The breading on their fish is amazing and fried to perfection. The fries are delicious as well. To match the great fish tacos is the price. $.99 if you dine there and $1.50 to go. Seriously, you can’t lose coming here.

My kids and I give this hole in the wall taco shop a 4 out of 5 stars! The tacos were BOMB! Fries were tasty and price point was decent. I’ll definitely be back to try more of their menu. Only bummer is it was so hot inside the restaurant, however we are in a heat wave so maybe normally it’s fine here in San Diego! Thanks y’all, we’ll be back!

Really bad carne asada tacos…. Only got meat & some tomatoes. With 1-2 pieces of onion & cilantro. Meat was super bad.
