Golden Ginger Restaurant Review in Clearfield, Utah – Facebook

I live barely 10 minutes away from there and never knew it was there. I’ll have to check it out!

We read the reviews because we were in an unfamiliar part of Northern Utah. 4.5 stars? How could you go wrong? When we finally found the restaurant, we were a bit put off by the appearance, but going on the reviews we decided to go in and give it a try. We both had the bento box for dinner. She had the salmon and I had the chicken. I had miso soup. She had chicken soup. The miso soup was so so miso and was a little above room temperature. My wife didn’t finish the Egg drop soup. It was thick andh starchy and basically tasted like a chicken broth cube in thicken hot water.
The presentation of the bento box was deceivingly good. (Proof’s always in the pudding) We never figured out what the salad dressing was, but it seemed like it was mostly mayonnaise with a little sugar. The potstickers.,. We’re not as good as what we get from Costco. The sushi, California roll that is, had the same kind of sauce as what was on the salad and it did not taste like a California roll. For me, the only flavor that tasted authentic was the wasabi and the white rice.
They use a hydrolyzed soy sauce in their teriyaki sauce and you can taste it immediately. I would suggest they change to something of the quality of a brewed soy sauce like Kikkoman. Ask any chef at a high end Japanese restaurant if he or she uses hydrolized, un-brewed soy sauce in their meal preparation. (Absolutely never) The teriyaki sauce tasted like sweetened beef broth mixed with their hydrolyzed soy sauce. A pungent taste. After a while, and after having looked around the restaurant for a little bit, we could see that it was not very well kept, and we were worried about the condition of the kitchen. We did not finish our meal and when they asked us if we needed take-home cartons… We politely said no thank you.
If you are expecting authentic 4.5 rated Japanese food, you will be disappointed…I would look elsewhere. If price is your only concern (we paid $30 plus tip) and you’re OK with it looking like Japanese food but tasting like something other than that, this restaurant is for you.
I don’t normally leave reviews, but we were so disappointed after having anticipated a delicious Japanese dinner, that I don’t want another person to stumble into this place like we did and regret it… Like we did.

Food is great, however, I did see the sushi chef take off his gloves after cooking and then went on to mop the floors then he went back to put on the same dirty gloves that he left next to the food to continue cooking, cross contamination.

Service takeout is awful very greedy with sauces very very greedy, I make sure that I tell them to give me enough sauce for everything that I order and they’d till just give me for example one sriracha, two soy sauce packets for $40 worth of sushi rolls. They also put my Shrimp tempura rolls together with my Nevada rolls, really? I get if I order the same sushi and they put them in the same container but two complete different once’s, I don’t think so.. When I called them to ask why they do this they said I have to tell them to separate them otherwise it will all come in the same tray and they also said something about their trays costing them $2.00 each, or they possibly meant to say I have to pay them $2.00 extra for separate trays?

Bitter sweet case here, love their food but hate their service and hate their greediness…

I have been to this restaurant twice and I ha e enjoyed it both times. The service is good even though others might have said otherwise. I would definitely recommend this for those who are vegetarian because they have more options. Those who I have been with who had either chicken or beef did say they thought their food was good as well. Sometimes it can be hard to find good Asian restaurants and I think an added plus for this restaurant is that they have Japanese, Chinese, some Indian and Vietnamese. Good food at a great price too!

i just ordered this on doordash, i loveeee sushi however the tiger eye roll is just gross. the salmon was way overcooked and tasted like plastic. i work in the food industry and choose not to make bad reviews about places, but i genuinely puked in my mouth on the spot. it tasted like fishy plastic. i love sushi and i have it all the time, it should not taste like that. the playboy roll was great though! i just advise this place should maybe adjust how they prepare items on their menu.

We LOVE this place! My hubby took me there last night for dinner and it was great. We love taking our kids there around Christmas time and let them order whatever they want and the kids love the sushi! ❤️❤️❤️

The food is excellent and service is fast. Price is standard. If you don’t need fancy service, and like an authentic vibe, come here! We had the orange chicken and it had big pieces of chicken (not just filling) and the sauce was just the right amount of sweetness. Great place for a quick lunch as they are not closed fore dinner service!

This is a great restaurant if you love Sushi. They have a very large selection of that. For folks like myself who don’t eat sushi there only one side of the menu for us. They don’t have a dedicated child’s menu, they take the regular orders and just cut them in half. Overall it’s great food. But be prepared to spend a chunk of change for it. For my wife and two kids and myself it was over $110. Enjoy we will return in about 6 months or so. Lol

Our new favorite Chinese restaurant North of Bountiful. They have both family style and combos. Food was great and not over battered. Hot and sour soup was decent, but not great. Tons of parking and there was no wait. Service was the best of any similar restaurant in the area. Will definitely make the 15-20 min drive next time for Chinese food. Next time we will try the sushi.

Golden ginger has been a favorite of ours since discovering it two years ago. We haven’t been disappointed with anything we’ve tried, but usually get the yellow chicken curry, a bento box, and a variety of sushi rolls. The portions are generous and our service has always been great!

WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. IF I COULD GIVE NEGATIVE STARS I WOULD. -44/10!!!! DO NOT COME HERE‼️‼️
I came super excited hearing about how this place, first off we get ignored for about 10 minutes before someone finally asks if we want any drinks. When we place our order, nothing came out like we asked. Literally just asked for orange chicken crispy … not that hard right? Our food comes out cold and not crispy… the owner came out, told us THEY CANNOT MAKE IT CRISPY AND TO GET OUT OF THE STORE!!!! He took our food and told us to leave because we asked for crispy orange chicken?!!!!? Really?!? Super confused and wish I could rate this place negative. Came super hungry and left almost crying, I’ve never been told to leave because of wanting to make my chicken crispy… BAD BAD BAD SERVICE!!!! Horrible energy from this place! OWNER IS MEAN
